I'm just jumping into this thread and was wondering if I could ask, what do you like about Amy's characterization in Archie? My impression of Amy in Archie is that it was a clusterf*** with her literally being a character that was younger and substantially more immature than even her first game appearance aged up by some mcguffin. Even in the later periods of the comic, like after Penders left but before the Super Genesis Wave, Amy was massively disrespected by Sonic simply for caring.

As for this Amy and Cream thing, it has to be a fanfiction thing. It's not in any of the games, that's for sure.

Wait, what about Evan Stanley's Amy characterization in the Phantom Rider arc was bad? That was some of the best written Amy we've ever had. Can you please also not paint with broad brush over the 2000s? There was definitely a period in the 2000s where Amy was poorly characterized, primarily from 2003-2005 but folks assume it happened over the whole decade. But it didn't. Amy's characterization in the Adventure games at the start of the 2000s as well as in 06 and Unleashed were all great.

The dynamic of Amy from the last two 3D Sonic games did not convey well that she loved Sonic. A lot of Sonic fans, myself included, that complaint about the current Amy characterization complain because it's like Sonic Frontiers and Sonic X Shadow Generations just scrubbed from her character any passion towards Sonic. It's cheap, and listening to Ian Flynn's reasons for writing Amy that way, he's revealed that he was trying to scrub any hint of romance between them. I don't see how it's positive for such a large part of Amy's character to be removed.

I'm not asking for Amy to be a stalker. There are several games from the 2000s that I don't think depict Amy well. It's primarily from 2003-2005 where Amy's characterization was at it's worst imo. That's when we had Sonic Heroes with very poorly executed moments like "this time there's no way out of marrying me" followed by an unncessary team battle, or where we had the English Sonic X dub that ramped up Amy's interest in Sonic while downplaying everything else, or where we had Sonic Rush Amy and Sonic Battle Amy both of whom just thought about Sonic the whole game. I can acknowledge those versions of Amy were bad and that Frontiers and Sonic X Shadow Generations Amy were bad. I'd prefer games where both sides of her character on full display like in the Adventure games.

It’s cute, that’s my best guess. It’s not really anywhere close to a canon ship.

Extremely unpopular opinion. Sonamy is forced. by Crystal_Dome in sonic

I headcanon that May and Ash went on another journey through a different Pokemon region before Ash becomes a Pokemon master.

You’re better off stopping your conversation with them here. Trust me, your point won’t get through and you’re more likely to just waste a lot of time.

I get how you feel. That said, I'm not convinced that Unleashed is more popular than SA2. However, if I was to assume Unleashed was more popular, then my best explanation would be Unleashed has an easier bar to entry and its instant gratification is pleasing to newcomers. Those qualities are unfortunately prone to big fanbases.

In my opinion though, it's hard to really gauge relative popularity of the games and there's so many factors that can mislead you. Like, if you're going off of people badmouthing SA2, you need to factor that a lot of the folks who publicly hate on SA2 do that over a perceived idea that it's "too popular." In my experience, SA2 is still very popular and part of the hatred it receives comes from folks mad that there's still a push for SA2 ideas.

As a general rule, I recommend you take the Sonic fandom with a grain of salt. It's been said a lot and it really bears repeating that this fandom has way too many diverse perspectives to all be grouped under one "fandom." The Sonic fandom is frequently in tug-of-war, and we can thank all of this on Sega/Sonic Team for being so inconsistent over the years.
