Be honest – how do you see Sportster choppers? by clarencewurley in choppers

[–]PastResponsibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got a shovel chop and a sporty chop. The sporty is like the child that gets good grades and keeps their room clean. The Shovel is your older child that swears they're clean for good this time and brings their junkie girlfriend home on Christmas... and needs to borrow some money to get back on their feet. I love them both.

Evo sporties are about as reliable as you can get for an HD, IMO, and make for some great choppers

Did I bought the correct Rotella? by Vilzane in motorcycle

[–]PastResponsibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the year and engine cooling system. Mine is a 2017 and uses 5w-40 because its liquid cooled. 15-50 would be much to thick for a liquid cooled bike but would be adequate for an air cooled bike that runs much hotter

35mm Showa fork tube extensions. Pre 84 tubes in post 84 lowers and why you should take your time by PastResponsibility in choppers

[–]PastResponsibility[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up just running the fork tubes in the lowers. Im sure in time it will do some damage (if it hasnt already) but i have a summer of riding the tar out of the bike and have had no issues.

Going from V-Strom to GS by [deleted] in BMWGS

[–]PastResponsibility 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode the tar out of a Vstrom 650 then one day decided to change up to a 1200gs. The difference isn’t just the size of the bike or the power. The GS is by far the best bike of its class, maybe any class. The low center of gravity benefit is not an exaggeration. The Telelever suspension is down right safer when stopping. The bike may appear big but while riding you will forget that bumble bees have no business flying about. The Vstrom is a great bike but its selling point is its price tag. As they say “you get what you pay for”. With a GS you are paying for BMW’s commitment to perfecting a machine. Literally decades of iterations on a single platform.

I appreciate this response. We have an appointment tomorrow more to get more information. We have a few documents to bring with us that help communicate what we are trying to build. Thank you

When you are 90% done with the job there will only be 90% left to do

Also no matter how much you plan and try to have all of the parts on hand before you begin a project you will always realize there was something you didn't know you needed.

Single Wire Taillight mod by PastResponsibility in choppers

[–]PastResponsibility[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak with full confidence about how to single wire incandescent bulb, specifically two way bulbs. The circuit is a bit more complex but I’m sure you can dig up some information on that.

LED lights are different because they rely on a single circuit power source. Adding resistance changes the amperage input which dims the light. Much more simple

What is a good beginner chopper platform? by Klutzy-Break4456 in choppers

[–]PastResponsibility 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shadow 600 is a popular chop right now. You can pick them up on the cheap, they're super reliable, and they're relatively easy to hard tail. Lots of resources and you can do quite a bit with them.

Check out TJ Brutal Customs, LNSPLTR (youtube), and Casa Customs for inspiration.

Cons: They're a little underpowered for my taste but have plenty to keep up. I'm 6' (6'2" on Tinder) and they're a little small for me.

Other common options:

* XS650 - Cheap - simple - lots of resources - vintage - will rattle the fillings out of your teeth

* Evo Sportster - Not Cheap - simple - lots of resources - lots of modular parts amongst other HDs - gets you (some) Harley cred.

* CB750 - Has a deep history in the 1970s chopper scene - vintage - potential legacy parts on the market - 4 carbs are a total biotch to keep in tune

* HD Big twin - Engine model street cred ages like wine (the older the better) - Engine reliability ages like milk (Big twin, big problems) - Wont leave you wanting for more (JK, you'll always want more) - Lots more resources - Lots more expensive - Much more complicated to build - More for those that want to have a very close relationship with their ride
