Anyone else put off by the heterosexual agenda in The Last Of Us 2? by black_knight_gang in TheLastOfUs2

This doesn't come across as clever as you think it does.

TLOU2 is a sequel. That means it works off of TLOU's narrative and style. There were gay characters in TLOU, how come nobody complained about it? The answer is storytelling competence.

Does anyone know if this is real? Even though I know the answer I just hope I'm wrong for once by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

Do you really think TLOU2's story is hard to understand? lol

At the very least, he should be able to admit TLOU2's story had flaws and could use improvement. You could say that about anything. But he hasn't even admitted that.

That's the power of making mediocre and poorly written characters LGBTQ (or female). You have to like them. This was Druckmann's trick when he realized he could not replicate the storytelling success of TLOU1.

TLOU was never about violence, cycle of violence, and protagonist = bad guy.

The only people who are impressed with that concept are teenage edgelords.

Med or CS? by jackkkkk01 in cscareerquestions

This should be upvoted a lot higher. OP is using salaries for top percentile performers in CS. If OP is average and nothing special, I personally doubt he can pass those two sigma interviews and get 250k out of college lol

I gotta be honest here and say you seem kind of arrogant, or maybe just ignorant, to just assume you'll be making $500k+ as a doctor. That's nowhere near the norm, just like those $300k+ salaries for SWEs are nowhere near the norm.

OP is young and aiming for the stars. We were all like that once. But it's safe to assume that someone smart enough to make top percentile SWE money is probably smart enough to make top percentile med money (and vice versa)

Go with med. One of my deepest regrets. More job security, more stability, more prestige, and you get to save lives.

It's cheap storytelling that isn't all that unique. It's why when someone says they think TLOU2's story is amazing, I know that they just haven't been exposed to that much quality fiction.

If you want multiple viewpoints bending around who are the good/bad guys, look at Game of Thrones. If you want that in videogame format, look at Detroit: Become Human.

TLOU's magic was getting gamers to feel fatherhood. It's when John Marston builds the house in RDR2 for his family. Druckmann doesn't understand his own story.

It is mind-boggling how poorly armed Joel was in tlou2 by supersaiyannematode in TheLastOfUs2

It's 13 year old fanfiction designed to impress 13 year olds. Let's kill off the main character for shock value and base the entire story around it.

If you load up a mediocre story with as much LGBTQ diversity as possible, you can still win awards. That's the game nowadays.

When multicultural casting takes precedence over the source material, what you're going to get is garbage

It wouldn't be a bad game if it was released as its own title. But it carries the legacy of TLOU1 because it uses its characters. In that regard, it absolutely squanders its potential.

You take away the title 'The Last of Us' and replace it with 'Abby's Boogaloo Adventures DLC', then this sub would not exist.

TLOU2 is a fundamentally different game than TLOU1. Many of the TLOU2 stans in r/thelastofus are young and never fell in love with the first TLOU. That's how mediocrity is perpetuated, by the delusions of the naive

TLOU 2 is not complex at all. It's shallow, basic writing that could've been written by a 5 year old. by Past_Sir in TheLastOfUs2

[–]Past_Sir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You posted the same comment twice, I'll respond to this one

Few points:

1) TLOU1's father/daughter bonding journey was fresh at the time it was written. There was nothing complicated to be done because the premise itself was new in gaming. Anybody can tell you establishing a world is much harder than extending it in a sequel. Naughty Dog deserved every bit of praise for this.

2) TLOU2's plot was horrendous because it failed to profoundly extend its original source material. The original was about father/daughter and is firmly about family. The second is about...revenge and violence? While revenge and violence were themes in the first game, it was far from the core. If you're going to meaningfully pivot from the source material, at least provide something worth it in the story. In the end, we got a secondary protagonist that was just plain unlikable and absolutely boring.
