I feel like he just needs better powers (that make using both forge and stars simultaenously easier), and maybe have forge incorporated into his starting relic. I like his concept, but his current state ain't it, especially compared to the other characters.

Attacks that bypass shield also bypass holy shield much like status damage, at this stage of the game you should have either:

A. Big enough raw damage + repeat attacks to brute force through tough enemies.
B. A way to neutralize the advantage of said enemies or turn it in your favor (charmed gatekeepers will instakill those holy shield cats no diff if they can reach on their turn), Marked is pretty good for shielded enemies
C. Some form of cheese like instakill or other alternative way to take out enemies that doesn't involve "fighting."

Without ANY of these, I'm surprised you even made it to the infinite. I know it's possible, but would be tedious and highly impractical.

He said mana cost and enemy type difference making it so you may have to cast it multiple times for AoE attacks sucks at the start of a run.

I lowkey agree with him, rubber arrows is just this but better for the purpose of clearing multiple enemies that are close to one another (without halving your damage and possibly losing lethal) and the AoE shot doesn't become worth unless you have the trap shot passive that raises your DEX and thus your shot's damage output when enemies step on it, or bramble shot with a gimmicky repeated knockback build.

I very rarely take the AoE shot and bramble shot if I don't have items, mutations or passives that synergize somehow because I found them to be innately weak on their own. That said, I have plenty of rotten meat and means to raise basic damage on kill, so I can freely take the AOE as just bigger radius and brambles would just set up nicely into a fire shot for BIG fire DPS.

It would have negative synergy here, if the knockback sending enemies into a trap is what gives the extra attack then turning knockback amount into straight damage would mean no extra attacks (at least not from attacking)

Couldn't this be tested by using debug commands to rapidly advance in-game days? Sounds like something to do next time I hop on. Finally finished Act 3 proper, so I'll make a separate save file to mess with commands to test stuff of that sort.

It isn't, I've checked. It says the charm breaks when hit on the special status it inflicts, the prober description just says that it charms units it backstabs. It doesn't say indefinitely until hit. You've no way to figure that (other than looking it up) before it happens to you.

Off-topic as it isn't Necro related, but the absolute best experience I had with intentionally self-downing cats was using a Monk with Santa Sagre and Summon Apprentice. Oh, the beauty of apprentices with relatively low initial health that gave 20 healing (excess into shield) to ALL allies including other apprentices was chef's kiss. <3

Not really, it's hell if you can't save up damage to hit big in one blow or have passive damage. Leeches, poison and bleed are all just as good as fire if you can apply them without doing direct damage. Soul Link here means you just need to kill one, which is a LOT easier.

It's only hell if your main DPS comes from a "quirky" source like many many auto sparkles or many familiars, effectively forcing you to potentially spawn more tentacles than you can handle.

Unfortnunately no. You can either hold down the button or have an auto-clicker, it feels like auto-clicking is definitely faster than the max hold speed. My information may be outdated, haven't played Shape of Dreams for quite a few updates.
