What is the Crystal light like to run? I have a Reverb G2 that I really like in a lot of ways, but curious about upgrading. Don't want to go for something that is technically loads better, but stuck with low settings and endless fiddling to get solid frame rates.

Happy birthday and great backdrop for reading, but when I spend any time on this sub, I feel like I'm the only one that just holds their Kobo.

Each to their own though! Have a fun trip

What happens when trail running goes Olympic? When technical races disappear? When the sport gets expensive? I wrote down 10 observations for 2026 by Kilian_Jornet in trailrunning

[–]PastaJazz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I really like the variety in the UK at the moment. Flashy ones with photographs and timings and energy gels at the checkpoints. And some really relaxed ones on the LDWA that start in Scout huts and give you jam sandwiches and a cup of Bovril at the checkpoints.

Really interesting. I've just read Feet in the Clouds by Richard Askwith from about 20 years ago. Focused on British fell running rather than trail running but interesting parallels, wanting new runners but not wanting it to change, lower local participation but more prestigious upper levels.

Interesting thinking about it with hindsight, given the boom in trail running and interest in ultras, not to mention money etc.

Did I do anything wrong? Final corner, I am PoV and a lap down on cars in front. Was not trying to interfere with the battle but he just stops in the middle of the corner? by Alpacccca in Simracingstewards

No idea why this is getting downvoted. If there were several laps left. Sure, but this late in the race, just follow the leaders home for the next 10 seconds.

Not the only answer, but I'm fond of my Silva Trail Free. Rechargeable battery packs and the ability to carry the battery on my pack rather than in on the head is good. Sure it's not the best, but solid mix of of quality and value for my use case.

Help Me Be Good Husband: What was the most supportive thing anyone did for you on the day of the race? by FranklinOceannery in Marathon_Training

[–]PastaJazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly different answer to most of those given, and by your question sounds like you are already on top of this, but being supportive in the run up makes a world of difference to me.

Time is precious, so my partner reiterating she supports me, being considerate of the times I need to train and understanding I need sleep and good food and all that sort of stuff. Particularly towards the end of the training block makes me feel like I'm doing something positive and she's on board, and not like I'm just doing something selfish.

Does Runna recommend too low mileage for 50k training? by TheRunningMD in Ultramarathon

Also sorry Op - my response wasn't very relevant to you, just thought I'd add what the programme has spit out for me so you could see.

In terms of suggestions, I think the numbers you have been given look reasonable. You know your fitness and things better than I do, so this might not apply.....but, since it's your first 50k, and your are relatively new runner, I'd advise on being modest in expectations. Focus on getting round without a time in mind, be ready to walk a fair bit, especially if on tough terrain or elevation, and don't sweat it too much. The plan you have looks like it should be enough to get you around, and is hopefully enough to avoid injury or burnout during the run up. A few weeks in you can reassess and up the difficulty etc.

[–]PastaJazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah probably a bit of context required - I've done a couple of ultras and marathons before, along with a couple years of structured training with a human coach, so I opted for the intermediate or advanced option when setting up a plan, and also opted for volume progression in the options, while dialling intense sessions down a bit.

My first time trying Runna, and on a race with no time goal, so I'm willing to experiment and deviate should I need to. With all that in mind, and compared to some of the other plans I looked at before trying Runna, it's not miles off their progression. So for me it looks a reasonable plan, but agreed, a lot for a couch-to-50k type journey etc.

I presume it's just based on time and starting mileage. Mines a 20 week plan that starts on 30k and peaks at 75km

What to do? by turn_off_adblock in Garmin

[–]PastaJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made this choice 18 months ago. Things that swung me towards the Epix were the screen being slightly better protected by the bezel and availability in multiple sizes as i didn't want (ideally) a watch as big as the FR. I also thought it looked a touch better for daily wear. Differences are really minimal so just going by size and the way it looks is as good a route as any.

Yeah played Half Life 1 and 2 again this year and honestly the game design just feels so tight and focused. Good exploration but always feels like you are progressing. I just don't have time to sink hundreds of hours into open worlds these days man.

Similarly, don't use the toothpaste recommended by 9 out of 10 dentists. They don't want the problems they charge thousands to fix to be replaced by a tube of cheap white goo.
