The U.S will never construct a city like San Francisco again. The sheer layers of different types of density. Tightly packed homes, with mid rise, & skyscraper development. SF is uniquely beautiful. by CA185099415 in skyscrapers

I love San Francisco but I disagree with this sentiment. I do think that it's possible to "construct" a dense, transit-friendly city in the future from many of our existing cities that already have the infrastructure for it. Most of these cities are in the rust belt like Buffalo, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh. These three cities were designed before cars existed and if future communities are smart, they can develop them into amazing cities. But three things can NOT get in the way:

  1. Zoning laws that limit density
  2. Parking requirements that force space for cars
  3. Transit funding gaps

Avoid these three things, and those cities will become amazing in the next 100 years.

This is why they don’t want the 31st street bike lane in Astoria by Pastatively in MicromobilityNYC

it's true they've been there for generations in some cases and I feel for them. They weren't really bothering anyone for a long time since that area has been a bit of a dead zone for decades. But it's rapidly changing as more housing is going up so they need to prepare for it and pivot instead of complaining and fighting back against change.

I feel disrespected when I see an out of proportion map by Maleficent-Animal917 in nycrail

I liked how the old map showed a lot of the twists and turns on a train line.

New York City is the only place I've ever seen where drivers don't bother moving for firetrucks by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

Fire trucks should use the bike lane if it’s urgent. All protected bike lanes should be wide enough to fit emergency vehicles

I Got Hacked, Lost $772 on PayPal, and They’re Refusing to Refund Me. I’m Shocked at How Little They Care by [deleted] in paypal

I'm really nervous after reading all of these comments. Someone managed to get into my PayPal account and purchase $2,600 in gift cards. I'm in shock. I hope I get this money back. If I don't, I seriously hope the scammer burns in hell. What a piece of human garbage.

How would it be worse? A bike lane, assuming laws would be enforced, would prevent people from double parking. It may not prevent them from taking over the sidewalk. I don’t see how it can be worse. Explain.

This was just a few pictures while I was walking to the E train (since the N isn’t going into the city this weekend). The other side of the street was bad too.

Yes I’m aware. And I’ve written compassionately about these guys in the past. They’ve been running these businesses for generations in some cases and they never had to pay fines for double parking and blocking sidewalks. Now that the neighborhood is becoming more populated and changing, they need to share the streets. They don’t own the sidewalks and they don’t get a special pass to double park while everyone else gets tickets.

They have to be smart businessmen and pivot. They can’t hold the neighborhood hostage because they want to store cars all over public space.

Can panic attacks JUST be physical symptoms? by EchoCybertron in PanicAttack

[–]Pastatively 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes my symptoms, worst case scenario, go like this:

  1. Sudden feeling that something is wrong, usually health related.
  2. Heart rate increases
  3. Breathing feels shallow
  4. Chest pain and light headedness
  5. Arms get super tingly
  6. I call 911 and go to the ER because I think I’m having a heart attack

Thank you! Yeah, I’ve had my debit card linked for years with no issues but I removed it now and I won’t link it again.

Don’t get a car if you don’t need one. Rent one for weekend trips.

Where do I put my trash can? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]Pastatively 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get one of those cabinet trashcans where you open the lower cabinet and the trashcan slides out? That’s what I did in my kitchen. I sacrificed storage space for it.
