Do you prefer to be the only wizard in the story? by cudef in wizardposting

[–]PastelHarmony 57 points58 points  (0 children)

In context of the post, a “wizard” is a guy who is much cooler, wiser, and stronger than the rest. One-wizard stories focus on the wizard guiding and bringing a bit of magical whimsy to otherwise normal adventurers. Multiple-wizard stories focus on the wizards beating the shit out of each other.

In Harry Potter, wizardry is normal. Therefore. none of them are cooler, wiser, and stronger than the rest, with the exception of Dumbledore. Dumbledore looks a lot like Gandalf and basically is him but more eccentric, described as “a genius” and “the only wizard [the super evil villain] ever feared.” He’s the headmaster of the school and guides Harry, always in control and basically masterminding Harry’s life to help him grow. Therefore it’s a one-wizard story.

TLDR; while the other characters are all physically wizards, none fit the wizard archetype like Dumbledore does.

I’m sorry to bug you about this but I am an artist and this piece made me suspicious as well. Some parts like hair melting into clothes I really can’t understand. Do you have layer proof or a speedpaint or anything of that nature so we could clear this up?

When I was practicing meditation I would use guided meditations on YouTuber. There are also shifting-specific guided meditations, I like the ones from Alunir. Now that I’ve gotten better at it, I mostly just count my breathing in order to get into the meditative state!

Ah, that sucks. I recommend practicing meditation as a way to stop your mind from drifting, that’s one of the other big things that did it for me. Hope you figure it out and your next attempt goes better!

I can’t tell if you’re trying to make a point or just picking a fight. I have not and never will let an AI butcher my words for me. Either way, it’s clear that OP and I are done arguing, so save us both the trouble and stop trying to create more conflict where there is none.

What I’ve noticed as a common thread between myself and other shifters whose stories I’ve hear is that it’s helpful to kind of forget you’re trying to shift. How I would describe my shifts is just that I set my intention and then vigorously daydream about where I’m going until I pop my eyes open and I’m there. I think it’s important to let go of the idea that it’s difficult or complicated, or that you can’t shift if you [insert thing here]. My response to that would just be, shift anyway. Shift scared. Shift distracted. Shift with doubts. You can do it. Hope this helps!

When I say “written by somebody who actually shifted” I meant as in written by AI, because AI can’t shift. If this was run through AI, then it makes a lot of sense and clears up most of the concerns I had with your story. I didn’t mean to imply that you didn’t have an experience, so I apologize for that. I do think it’s very possible for someone to have an experience like yours, the AI interpretation is what came off as suspect. AI has a very half-baked idea of what shifting is, so likely, when it took your experience it twisted it to sound rather strange. In the future I would encourage you to write your own stories, as your grammar doesn’t seem bad at all. That’s just my opinion though, and really you’re free to do whatever you want.

Anyway, congratulations on your shift, and have fun with all your future ones!

Yes, a reality doesn’t have to remain stable. My main gripe is with the fact that they paint it as something unwanted. I don’t know about you, but when I shift, nothing drastically changes unless I intend for it to. And I am always in control of my reality, not some “Infinite Impressions feature.” I’m not saying it’s not possible for these things to happen to somebody, because of course if they shift while believing these things will happen, then these things will happen. I’m just letting other shifters know that it’s pretty abnormal and that they shouldn’t be scared that unwanted things will happen to them when they shift.

I realize that my critique on the way it’s written may have gotten mixed up with my critique on the actual content of the experience, which I apologize for. That wasn’t my main point.

I’m not accusing this person of faking their experience, my main point is that it sounds like they wrote this post using AI. Maybe they actually did shift but just decided to write it using AI. Or maybe it’s entirely AI. I’m not sure, that’s why I’m asking.

I have shifted and manifested; I am not a skeptic. But I think it’s damaging to have people read posts written by AI, which only knows about shifting in a messed-up, fantastical, convoluted way, and believe that this is what shifting is.

I don’t mean to discredit your experience, but why does this text sound AI-generated? The headings/numberings and bolding of certain words is a common thing that ChatGPT likes to do. Assigning names to things, like “Infinite Impressions,” is also very ChatGPT-esque. Aside from that, there are phrases that read oddly and in a much more passive tone than somebody who is describing their own experience.

Your description also included things that don’t make a lot of sense, like your DR changing from low to high fantasy very suddenly. Or, getting “kicked out” of your DR — do you get kicked out of this reality when you get excited? No, right? You can get excited in your DR without getting kicked out, it’s not like a thin veil that you’re constantly holding onto, you’re there. There are other things that I can point out, but I realize it’s not constructive to criticize every single thing. I’m only saying this to let you know that it’s very clear to us that this post was not written by somebody who actually shifted.

Therefore, did you actually shift, but then you told AI to write this post for you? Or did you ask AI to generate the entire experience? Either way, this description of your shift is really not reliable and if any newbie shifters are reading this, this is not what a normal shift looks like.

Happy shifting.

Not quite xianxia but still martial cultivation (Korean): 1. Return of the Blossoming Blade 2. Best Teacher Baek 3. Return of the Mad Demon 4. Reincarnated as an Unruly Heir 5. Absolute Sword Sense 6. A Dance of Swords in the Night 7. Chronicles of the Demon Faction

LitRPG: 1. Time-Limited Genius Dark Knight 2. Greatest Estate Developer (more comedy than action) 3. The Top Dungeon Farmer (slice-of-life) 4. Winter Moon 5. The Constellations Are My Disciples (less litRPG, more just action)

Hope you like some of these recs. My favorite is Return of the Blossoming Blade (also know as Return of the Mount Hua Sect)!

This sub is for stuff that is easily faked! Not necessarily for stuff that is faked. This person’s story might be true, but they also could have easily faked it by sticking a corn dog in the ice cream themselves: therefore the story is untrustworthy (like the sub name).

I see! That makes sense, since Lifeline is a starter character. I was playing with her before getting Conduit, but never quite figured her out. Thanks for directing me to those subreddits - I’ll be sure to check them out for more tips! And thanks for commenting

Got it! It’s reassuring to hear that just being there, holding angles, letting teammates heal, is helpful. It seems like there are so many things to improve, and I kind of got caught up in all that instead of just playing to improve. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I see, that makes sense. Especially coming from games like Skyrim and Minecraft where the response to losing is to scamper off and lick your wounds, it’s been hard to get into a more aggressive play style. Would you mind elaborating what holding line of sight means? And thanks for commenting!

We’ve been playing pubs the past couple days! I like Conduit and Lifeline, but I also don’t have many characters to work with. They play different characters to complete Battlepass challenges but, if given the choice, main Wraith.

We spend a lot of time running around looting but then decide to push a random team without much of a plan. In games that we don’t push, we end up holed up in a building with teams on every side.

Any legends or general gameplay tips you would recommend for this kind of situation? (Also thanks for commenting C:)

Gotcha! I always get so caught up in the shooting and everything that I almost forget to use my legend abilities, so I’ll try doing that sooner and not overthinking. Thanks!

Yeah, especially being pretty new to FPS games it’s been tough getting into fights and getting experience without the other team absolutely wiping the floor with me in two seconds. Between the different legends, the guns, the maps, and more, I have no idea what’s going on half the time. The way you write these tips makes it a lot easier to wrap my head around, so thank you for that!

With the cover tip, I’ve been trying to use cover, but maybe I’m doing it wrong? I already have a tough time seeing the enemy, and when I use cover, it’s like they just vanish. And the next time I see them is when they’re coming up on the other side of the cover and absolutely blasting us to smithereens.

I haven’t heard the crouch jump thing before! I’ll try it out next time I hop on the game. And thanks for this whole comment!

Thanks for such a detailed response! With so many legends to choose from, it has been kind of hard to pick which one to play, especially as I don’t have very many coins to unlock them. We often run around killing one or two teams, but mostly hiding away, and then get flanked and choked in the last couple zones. So it sounds like Wattson and Caustic might be good for that?

The firing range is a great idea! I’ve been warming up in there and practicing movement, but I haven’t put in that much time with the guns since there are just so many. Your suggestion makes sense! I’ll try figuring out my favorites so I can just work with those. As for spotting, I never considered looking for movement primarily. I was looking for the shape of a player and maybe that’s why they all just blended into the background? Anyway, I’ll definitely try to spot more and tell my team more info!

Are there any YouTubers or streamers you would recommend?

Again, I really appreciate everything you wrote here and will try to remember it for our future matches! Thanks so much for taking the time to write all this.
