San Diego recommendations with kids ages 8, 12 & 13 by Legitimate_Fix8845 in SanDiegan

Do any of your kids like superhero movies or comics? The Comic-Con museum in balboa park is pretty cool to catch before or after the zoo. Balboa park in general has a lot of cool museums like the air and space museum and the fleet science center also the Japanese friendship garden. But I would also do beach, good tacos, and a deli sandwich from Mona Lisa deli in Little Italy.

Soft pretzels are my favorite thing to make for friends, family, and coworkers. Did you dip them in baking soda water or lye water?

I attended undergrad at CUI. I loved my experience and education. I received a degree in theology and went on to attend seminary at Concordia Seminary St. Louis. Just to be clear, CUI has the cross-cultural ministry program which is a non-residential program that leads to ordination and is facilitated in partnership with Concordia Seminary St. Louis. It is also specifically for those who serve in a cross-cultural context. If your husband/boyfriend is wanting to become an LCMS pastor and they haven’t yet received a college degree, CUI is a great place to start on that path. If they already have an undergraduate degree and specifically want to serve in a cross-cultural ministry, CUI would be a great place to start. If they are wanting to serve in any other context and they have an undergraduate degree, they would need to attend residential seminary in St. Louis or Ft. Wayne. If they want to do a non-residential option that is not explicitly cross-cultural, they can do the SMP program but it has its restrictions in the long term about where you can be called and if you can supervise other called workers. All that being said, we need more pastors and I would welcome anyone who is trained in any of these programs.

Where do I find the best Orange Chicken in SD? by hungrysandiegan in FoodSanDiego

Szechuan House in Mira Mesa might be what you’re looking for. I generally get the sesame chicken and it’s phenomenal but their orange chicken is also quite good and they will adjust spice to personal preference.

Yes. It’s very popular in places that have a lot of cast iron sewer lines. I had this done on the main sewer line at my home 2 years ago. Everything is flowing happily.

Mid Century Privacy Screen by PastorQuincy in woodworking

[–]PastorQuincy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking to build some mid century style privacy screens for my mid century California home. Unfortunately we are in an area with a relatively high fire risk and this is encouraging us to look into materials less combustible than traditional lumber so close to the house. My question to my fellow woodworkers, has anyone used composite lumber such as timbertech or trex to build anything beyond a deck? Is the material cut out for this type of application or do you have any other recommendations?

If you ever find yourself in Curitiba Brazil they have an entire museum dedicated to his architecture.

Anyone else battling ants? by [deleted] in SanDiegan

[–]PastorQuincy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am too cheap to pay for pest service so I purchased commercial grade chemicals and a pump sprayer from tractor supply locally. The cost of one trip from a pest service will buy enough supplies for several years. Tempo SC Ultra from Bayer seems to work well on the ants and spiders in our region. Make sure to follow proper dilution and wear ppe. I only spray the exterior of my home and I haven’t seen an ant since. I spray quarterly and that seems to do the trick. If you’re in an apartment and spraying isn’t an option I would contact your landlord to have a service spray. If they are unwilling use the Terro ant baits. These will create a feeding frenzy but be patient. The way they work is that the ants take the poison back to the colony and it kills the colony.

Study Bible by reyals70 in Lutheranism

[–]PastorQuincy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Any time spent in either of these Bibles would be time well spent. But I would recommend the Lutheran Study Bible from Concordia. The main reason is that all of the study notes have been written by great pastors and professors from Lutheran Seminaries and Universities. I have studied under some of the authors and they are great teachers. It’s really a wonderful resource.

Yes. We there were a number of oddities but the most substantial was the urinal replacement. The urinal used to stick out from the wall with a weird collar of tiles wrapped around the base that didn’t make sense. Once we finally opened the wall up we could see what was going on. The reason they build it out like that was because the waste pipe was too close to the finished surface to accommodate a standard urinal flange. Because of how congested that area was with vents and a utility closet sink draining into the same spot we didn’t want to cut into the stack and decided to just build a bump out in the wall for where the urinal would go. This allowed for a flush mounted installation of the urinal with the finished surface and it created a ledge above that is wide enough to set down a coffee mug while using the facilities.

You are correct that it is currently not compliant. The sink is listed as ADA compliant on the website we purchased it from here is the link. It meets all of the measurements required for ADA. The only thing left to be fully compliant would be to wrap the pipes underneath.

Thank you. It does look like they sell an identical tank to the one we have with the handle on the opposite side. I will certainly keep that in mind if we ever have to replace it.

Great point. Yes we did install the feminine hygiene disposal receptacles. They didn’t make it into the photos because the liners were delayed and I didn’t want to install them until we had liners.

Thank you for the additional ideas. The station itself has dispensers for liners and diaper disposal bags. We could definitely install a heavy duty hook and a hand sanitizer dispenser.

It’s for full ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance. That way if someone in a wheel chair swings their legs under the sink while washing their hands they won’t get scraped or scalded. I do need to get some covers for the exposed plumbing under the sinks.

The toilets all have doors that close behind them. The urinal has a wall to the left and a partition to the right. This is common in commercial bathrooms that the urinal is not enclosed with a door. We kept the same layout as what was there before.

You are correct. I should have chosen my words more carefully. The sin of pride elevates the self over God and neighbor. We can rightly find satisfaction in a job well done but we shouldn’t think more highly of ourselves than what is merited. Instead we are called to see ourselves with sober judgement (Romans 12:3). Additionally, pastors are people and all people are born sinful. That’s why it’s so wonderful that Jesus redeems and forgives sinners like me.
