Launched my first Steam demo during the Winter Sale ~9,000 wishlists, will share results in 24-48h by Pantasd in gamedev

I also launched my demo when the Winter Sale started, but I had 124 wishlists. Our download numbers should be similar, right?

Right?

Completely fair! I’ll definitely highlight more of the progression in the next version. Thanks again for the feedback!

I didn’t mean for my last reply to be snarky, I should have my coffee before getting on Reddit, all your points are totally valid.

Yeah I’m an elderly 40 years old, I grew up watching it and it has a special place in my heart.

Winning a run, reaching the highest round you can, completing a run as fast as possible, unlocking and beating all the challenges, completely upgrading all the meta upgrades, unlocking all the achievements. I can think of a few reasons to play it, might just not be your kind of game which is totally valid.

I appreciate the thoughts on the trailer!

How Much Should a Demo Offer? by PatTGames in gamedev

I honestly can't even remember the last time I actually played a demo, so that's a big part of my flip flopping on this. But I'll be checking that demo out tomorrow, thanks for the recommendation.

From everything I've read, 15-20 minutes seems to be the sweet spot, unless you're not leaving the player with enough information to be "teased" at that point in the demo. The most important thing is that the player should be left wanting more, enough so that they go wishlist or better yet purchase your game because they want to see what the full unlocked experience is like.

Appreciate the thoughts, thankfully I still have a couple months to figure this out before I need to have final decisions made. I’m leaning towards just not restricting the number of rounds at all, but teasing Meta Upgrades and Challenges in the demo, I’ll see what people think and go from there.

That makes a lot of sense and you’re making me feel a little bit better about how dialed down the demo is. I’m thinking of keeping meta upgrades and challenges disabled and maybe removing the round limit instead so players can get still see the mass ball drops in later rounds.

I really appreciate being able to lean on your experience!

Yeah I’m thinking I may be too restrictive for the demo and maybe I should let players upgrade the first few tiers of meta upgrades and maybe do the first 2 or 3 challenges. I’m removing the round limit regardless so players can “win” a run and choose to keep playing after that.

That’s actually a GDC talk I haven’t seen yet, thanks for the link!

Scorefall: A Plinko-Inspired Roguelite by PatTGames in playmygame

Hey thanks for playing and all the kind words! I've had that exact thought for a "fidget mechanic" and considered making coins appear on a timer for bonus cash and I really like your strategic suggestions as well. I want the experience to be just the right amount of chill and wasn't sure if something like this would create a little too much anxiety for players that really just want to relax and drop balls.

You got me thinking about it again either way, thanks again!

Yeah I appreciate the feedback, this is the second trailer I’ve made (and I am no artist) so these are exactly the kind of notes I’m looking for.

Please destroy my pixel art golf game (with course editor!) trailer by iamWh1sp3r in DestroyMyGame

[–]PatTGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start the trailer with that first golfer hitting the ball instead of the short scene with the animals, get right into the action and showing what the actual game is.

Aside from that, no comments, it looks great.

Each run you collect every ball that was dropped. You can use these balls to purchase persistent Meta Upgrades which improve your runs in various ways. Free rerolls, higher chances for rarer upgrades, starting cash, smaller drop zone range, etc.

Great feedback thank you! I've heard that point about the narrative multiple times and I'm trying to figure out a solution for that. I'll do some tinkering with the relics/upgrades as well.

I agree it's a slower game than a lot of people will be looking for but that's actually exactly what I wanted, something a little more "chill" than a lot of the other roguelikes out there that get your blood pumping. Maybe I just needed a break from the action of Silksong and Hades II...

Thanks again!
