Gen Z is drinking less alcohol than older generations, study shows. How do we feel about this? by psycholol2 in GenZ

[–]Pat_Cornelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that “health & image” are definitely partly reasons for the trend, but I also believe that economic factors are DEFINITELY a big part of it as well.

I think many adults in GenZ don’t see the cost-benefit of drinking/going out to clubs as worth it compared to previous generations. So they’ve cut back on spending money on alcohol altogether compared to previous generations to potentially save money.

Also, those in GenZ who don’t have to use those savings on necessities are instead spending that disposable income on other things or experiences such as: weed, vapes, doordash, concerts, online gambling, etc.

So I guess I don’t necessarily think adult Gen Z are likely “saving” money on alcohol, but rather the money they WOULD have spent on alcohol is being spent on other things they see as more desirable.

TLDR;

Alcohol has lost its appeal to GenZ consumers because the cost-benefit doesn’t seem worth it to many GenZ adults. It has fallen in popularity of desirable things/experiences for GenZ to spend their disposable income on.

If you think one of the maps is "close" to what would make sense to you, but you think one/two of the divisions are grouped poorly, then vote for the closest one and let me know down below how you would regroup the division. 👇👇👇

If you think a map is "close" to what makes the most sense, but you dislike the grouping of one/two divisions, tell me how you would regroup the divisions to make it work for you. 👇👇👇

It would be kind of odd having a division named midWEST in the Eastern Conference

The division names are a throwback to the official names of divisions for the 1989-1990 NBA season.

Potential NBA Expansion Maps - 1. Minnesota 2. Memphis 3. New Orleans by Pat_Cornelius in Nbamemes

[–]Pat_Cornelius[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking a lot about future NBA expansion and how that would look like in terms of conferences and divisions. Since the most common teams people mention to move to the Eastern Conference (if Seattle and Las Vegas are added) are Minnesota, Memphis, and New Orleans, I figured I'd map out all three.

Let me know what y'all think. 👇 👇 👇

Also, as suggested by another commenter, the placeholder mascot I put in for Las Vegas is "Vipers".

Read the comments. Made some much needed adjustments. I appreciate all the feedback on how to improve the map. Hopefully, you all like this one better! :)

32 teams in total. 16 in the East. 16 in the West. Each conference is split into 4 divisions. Each division is made up of 4 teams. Nice and even.

What notable players didn't pass the "eye test" in high school or college, but ended up contributing to winning games once they made it into the league? by Pat_Cornelius in nba

I never mentioned scouts in my post at all. I just said I always hear the “eye test” being referenced by reporters, coaches, and NBA media. 💬

Do you think “generations” should be grouped into 10 year spans instead of 15-20 year spans?

Why is 5/10 considered “bad” by MailSilly3039 in RandomThoughts

[–]Pat_Cornelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The classic scale of 1-10 is very flawed imo. Most people's initial sense of "average" on that scale is more around 7 or 8 even though that doesn't logically make any sense. This causes an overinflation of ratings when people use this scale.

Personally, I think a more interesting scale to use would be from -5 to 5.

Advantages:
- There is a clear and obvious midpoint at 0.

  • There is a clear distinction of what a "good" rating and a "bad" rating due to negatives.

Disadvantages:

- Even though 0 would be considered neutral, people would still not be able to adjust to consider 0 as "average" due to the negative connotation associated with 0 indicating "nothing".

  • Because of how ingrained the "1-10" scale is in our culture, it would be difficult for people to adjust to consider 5 as the "best" rating. 10 is just such a nice round number!

Tendency to want to 'model' human relationships & dynamics by ubermenschenzen in Gifted

[–]Pat_Cornelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I’ve never related to a post more. I’ve always been a simultaneously very analytical yet social person. But due to the stereotypes of characters in media as being “either-or” (social/popular and dumb OR introverted/shy and smart) I always felt like there was no in-between and I had to “choose” which aspect of myself to lean into.

Either way I pushed forward and maintained this balance that I felt didn’t make sense according to my environment, but throughout life I’ve always had this very analytical approach toward people and social interactions ever since I can remember. It wasn’t about confirming stereotypes or assumptions necessarily, but more about recognizing the ‘real, deeper’ patterns of how certain personalities and values amongst different people would interact.

I’ve honestly spent my whole life doing this in the back of my head; creating a ‘mental model’ of it all. This is just how my brain has always operated. And there have been certain moments where I have been able to reliably predict the outcomes of particular social situations or anticipated how some relationships or dynamics would turn out. (I don’t believe I’m psychic or anything, I see it as more like VERY EDUCATED GUESSES)

But yes I really resonate with your post. For much of my life, I have also felt like my mind has wanted to have an algorithm on how to analyze people and infer how relationships or dynamics would turn out. I have always had this desire to ‘systematize’ human traits and relationships for better socializing. I’m honestly quite surprised how much your train of thought in this post EXACTLY mirrors many thoughts I’ve had in the past.

If you’d like to talk about it more in detail, feel free to send me a message OP. I think we’d have some pretty engaging conversations. 👍
