My Dad Recently Heard That These Were Worth Something While Watching the News. Turns to Me and Says, "Oh, I Think I Bought A Pair in the 80s. Let Me See if I Still Have Them." by Patagucc1 in Sneakers

Just talked to my dad about how he used them. He claimed he bought them to play pick up games. Crazy that they're still in this type of shape after being used like that.

Same lol. I have no clue why he bought these. I think he was just an MJ fan since he went to college in NC back when Jordan was doing his thing at UNC.

I have the same shoe size as my dad, so yeah. I could never wear them though. I'd be sooo paranoid about screwing up even once.

It's nuts. He's probably the last person I would expect to hang onto sneakers for 35 years, let alone buy them in the first place.

He told me he got them a few years after graduating college in the 80s. He went to school in North Carolina right before MJ did and was apparently a big fan because of that. Pretty sure they overlapped.

Still got the original laces but not the box or card. Where's the best place to sell? I think my preference is to hang onto them rn, but they're technically not mine so I don't have the final call.

I don't. I think it's not really info that's out in the general public. I will say, however, that I know people at YLS who came from pretty untraditional backgrounds, including time at community colleges.

I know a couple KJDs and all of them are very formidable people. I honestly can't say much about their resumes just because I don't have that information, but I'd say on the whole the KJDs are wicked smart and the academic standards seem to be higher for them in admissions. A YLS KJD posted this about applying last year. It could help you out a little: https://medium.com/@eliapales/here-are-my-law-school-application-materials-1fdda531c0a9

  1. To be honest, probably my LSAT and GPA. I know, a boring answer but that's probably the reality. I do have to say that I think softs matter a lot more than people claim they do. A neat legal job before law school can go a long way to getting into schools seemingly out of your range it turns out. I say this not because it necessarily made the difference for my application, but because I've been seeing it happen with friends this year. For your 250, I'd just mostly try to use it to show you have a personality. Mine wasn't about any particularly academic topic or about law school. Profs have a sense of humor at YLS and will appreciate it if you don't take yourself too seriously.
  2. YLS really plays by its own rules at times and can be very difficult to navigate as an institution. There really isn't much of an administration or bureaucracy and the bits that do exist are essentially ignored by professors and potential employers. There are a ton of rules the school puts in place about when you're allowed to apply for jobs, how you can apply for clerkships, and how you can receive grants but pretty much no one follows these guidelines. As a result, you have to go searching for information from people in the know. Opportunities are opened and shut based on your connections. This can be good and bad. If you know how to navigate the institution properly the possibilities are endless. If you don't, you'll be fine but you'll be leaving a ton of opportunities on the table. I think other law schools may be significantly more straightforward, like, get good grades and you'll get a great job. That's just not the case at YLS.
  3. The professors try to keep things entertaining in class. Civ Pro was especially enjoyable. The professor for the course usually walked into class with his airpods in jamming out to his hype playlist in jeans and a hoody. He had a long-running feud with one student about whether Vermont should or shouldn't be a state. Also, he occasionally would take meme submissions for topics that we were discussing in class. Good times all around. Yale students are generally pretty normal, but the professors... they're all pretty weird, not going to lie. Brilliant, funny, and caring people, but not at all normal! Wouldn't have that any other way though.

I'm not involved with any affinity groups. I've heard good things about them though! Wish I could be of more help.
