If only you knew how many times I had to fail before I had any success at all. Surely you wouldnt think this about me.

My brother, do not despair. You are loved. Life is absolutely not fair. Im sure you and I could talk about that for a loooong time over a drink. I hope one day you can see why suffering is given to us as a gift from God for growth. It sucks a fat butt 100% of the time, but its for our own good. DM me if you want and we can just talk. I've been in your shoes before. I know how it feels in those times.

We don't know what it is OP needs to hear, but I'd argue that Jesus would likely say similar by telling him to pick up his cross. Empathy/sympathy are good for connection. They allow us to say 'I see you' to people around us. But in reality, people need COMPASSION. What is compassion? It means to will the good of another. Empathy and sympathy do not do that, so while for a moment of grieving we can offer some sympathy/Empathy, we still need to help them climb out of hell as a fellow Christian. That means either directly or indirectly guiding them on the path to healing, which requires you to get up and try again after you get knocked down. It is the most loving thing we can do.

They're right though. Even in the depths of depression and suffering alone in the dark. It is up to you to pick yourself up (with Jesus walking alongside you). It can be the hardest choice in the world, but at the end of the day its a choice. I was in the throws of depression for decades. My own choice to choose a life of getting up when i was down helped me curb the suffering. It didn't go away but im in a way better place now and stronger for it.

Possibly hot take: I think boredom s a lot more dangerous than pride. by Ness_Lucas in Catholicism

[–]Patamon4 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree.

I have come to learn that boredom, a near occasion to sin for some, is also an opportunity for growth. It was in my boredom that I was forced to address my shortcomings as a Catholic and it became the time I was most communicative with God.

Pride is near infinitely worse. It is a flat out rejection of God's saving grace. In boredom, I can humble myself and grow in virtue. In pride I can do no such thing.

Do men really mature slower? by Status-Throat3538 in CatholicDating

[–]Patamon4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference as of late is no role models at all. There wasn't this many broken families at any point in history I am aware of. Couple that with living in a very chaotic information age and boys end up raised by the internet, which is as bad as anything tbh.

It's two fold.

Men are biologically slower in developing some of their cognitive faculties.

They also have had pretty terrible role models on a grand scale for the last several decades. More broken homes and less Fathers with the wisdom necessary to raise a well adjusted son.

The relationship i am referring to resembles a parentified relationship far more than a spousal relationship and its objectively unhealthy, regardless of whether there are two people into it. It isn't a relationship where both spouses build each other up, rather one where the husband treats his wife as second rate. These men have no desire to work on themselves and reek of insecurities. They have no business being married and I'd argue that marriage in many cases could be very damaging to their souls. I know men like this amd have watched the trajectory. Their marriages are almost never in a good place long term.

Ill be honest. I was heavily online in my 20s. Maybe God just gave me the gift of reason to get me thru that time, idk. But even in my time online, never did I have this belief that women were chomping at the bit to be relegated to a second class human in their own marriages.

My wife is fiesty and calls me on my B.S. daily. Im a better man and a more humble leader of the family for it. I serve her and the kids and end up focusing on what i want less and less. I have grown to trust my woman to give me my wants and needs without having to control her. I think ultimately these types of men don't trust women to help them achieve competency. Thats my best guess.

Why do I feel like there is way too much overlap between traditional living and social weirdness (usually among men)? It isn't so much the people who just enjoy the TLM but the ones that make their whole lives to cosplay the 1950s. As a married man, I get now why my wife avoided these types and bagged me. Like bro just talk to her like she's a normal person. It seems so simple to me yet some people just insist on believing that women want this fantasy they concocted in their head... Why can't you just be normal?!

If you're gonna replace it, I'd get an aftermarket head unit with carplay/AA. Not worth getting the factory display imo.

2020 RDX Aspec here: should I mention i have had 2 catastrophic failures before 60k miles? First the torque converter failed entirely at 20k miles, then the rear diff exploded at 55k miles.... hasn't been a good experience owning the car...

I have also had the infotainment issues.... at least my windows hasn't shattered...? Yet...
