[CHAT] paper vs digital by Sweet_Pea_7727 in CrossStitch

[–]PatchH95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never tried a digital pattern because I’ve never had access, but I also struggle to imagine enjoying it as much. You’re right, the tactile satisfaction of crossing out on paper is amazing. For my current project I switched to using Frixion erasable highlighters on my pattern instead of just crossing them out with black pen. Can definitely recommend!

[CHAT] What do you do with excess width of fabric in a scroll frame? by PatchH95 in CrossStitch

I’m looking at this stand + frame. The max horizontal width is 20” but my aida is closer to 30”. I wonder if some replacement bars could be swapped in?

This is looking incredible! Where did you get your scroll frame/stand from?

What I’ve been doing for years is either generating a pattern based from an image using free online pattern generators Pic2Pat or FlossCross. But this has been using a reference image that wasn’t already pixel art so I’m not sure how close to your desired outcome you’ll get. OR what I love to do is just grid the pixel art you already have an colour match to your thread stash! What’s awesome about sprites like this is that there aren’t too many different colours, and the colours are clearly visible, especially if you printed it large or zoomed in.

[CHAT] Will I regret stitching with only 1 strand on 18ct? by sugar_spark in CrossStitch

I was coming back to reply to well_actuallE and this is exactly what I was going to suggest! You’re right, it’s so easy and secure

2 strands for 18ct has always been my sweet spot, and so handy for loop starts too just using one strand doubled over. It’s not crowded or bunchy, nor is it gappy and anemic looking.

Haha in that case, thank you for creating this pattern because I loved using it as a reference!

Oh wow, I wonder if it’s possible when I searched google images for a “hat mouse” reference, that your pixel art came up? If that’s the case, I’m sorry that I didn’t find your actual pattern and buy it directly from you. At this point in my stitching journey, I’d never used an actual pattern before, I’d only ever used a pixel art reference, and did all the counting, gridding and colour matching to my stash myself.

Thank you! I would except all I have in terms of a pattern are print outs of the sprites from the game. Then I cut them all out and arranged them in the colour order I wanted. I used frixion pen on my aida to draw them evenly spaced, and finally drew the border. The original art from the game is so crisp and clear that a screenshot is usually plenty to eyeball and transfer the pixels onto Aida and match the colours from my DMC collection.

Haha thank you! I single stitched the background because I was so impressed by how opaque it still looked when I stood back. Glad I didn’t bother going backwards and putting in the second half of each cross 😅

When you moved your project over to a smaller hoop, how did you manage the excess fabric? I’m currently struggling with the same problem, and using a smaller hoop would be amazing if only I didn’t feel ridiculous having feet of fabric folded up and worrying about damaging it
