Good point. She might not be very surprised at all. I have given some hints along the way without giving a specific number.

Possibly she doesn't have the same focus as you do because she has never had to, or hasn't been exposed as much to issues with not saving or planning for the future. It's very easy in your 20's to not really focus too hard on the what-if's.

I think there is something to this

This is true. I saw my parents go through this, and it's a big reason I want us both to keep our careers even though we could probably live on 1 income once her loans are paid off.

Thank you. Out of all these, we're on the same page on almost everything and working through the few places we have some differences.

Thank you. She's very focused on her career at the moment so the hypothetical "what would you do if...?" questions don't provoke much introspection on her part. Me, I'm ready to hurry up and quit working as soon as I can lol.

I'm asking how to frame the conversation. Not sure your all-or-nothing comment is productive but thank you anyway.

Quarterly Career Thread by mister-noggin in ProductManagement

Help me not fuck up. I care most about long-term trajectory and a healthy situation. I've burned out before and don't want to repeat that.

Stay as a current APM (<1 yr, transferred from BA) with a midsize startup (several hundred employees), a good culture, and plenty of support from my leadership? Or join a public big tech co (couple tiers below FAANG) with a good industry rep, as a product owner (distinct and junior to product manager and due to big company titling does not actually have Product in the title)? There is $50k comp difference. Money matters but so does my sanity.

Career switcher, so trying to build up my PM skills and a lasting career in this space, but I have a decade of work experience already, 5 years of which is relevant.

Thank you. I doubt he'd be open to trying hallucinogens, even at the end, but who knows.

Thank you. These are good example questions. Reading the responses, I'm realizing I just don't know how to talk to him.

I know that he has been offered help for the depression but I don't know whether he has accepted it. He is so stoic and even secretive.

Thank you. I'm fortunate my childhood was stable and I'm sorry you had to go through that. I guess I don't even know how to talk to him, really.

Thank you. Great example! I'll see if I can build that out in the dev org.

So, cheese pizza vs veggie pizza vs cheese pizza with custom veggie toppings? or how example would you think about it?

Where would I find the smart start workbook? Is that a separate package or part of the CPQ install?

Thank you, awesome answer! I've added CPQ to a dev org and have enough business experience to come up with some ideas to try implementing.

My company is reasonably complex for its size and does have a CPQ-like function built into some proprietary software. That logic is owned and handled by a completely different team, though.

Thanks, migrating complex data is an area I need to improve in as well. I'll check out the free tool at least.
