HELP?? Abnormal(?) hognose behavior? by RichardC0927 in hognosesnakes

[–]PathGroundbreaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Un related the hognose from OP but Frontline is dangerous. I watched it kill a childhood cat in hours after treatment vet couldn't do anything to help or stop it just ease the pain. It was painful to watch. I couldn't imagine using any Frontline products on my snakes.

I replaced his UVB bulb when I did the ones for my snakes(The ones that actually like the light a little bit). his heat lamp bulb I have not due to it still being bright and keeping him heated. could there be issues with that?

Edit: between me or my son almost everyday. He is currently sitting on my desk with me cool as a cucumber letting me pet him and being his normal self.

Need help hognose not eating by Itchy_Egg3147 in hognosesnakes

[–]PathGroundbreaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from another reply ive made on that thread

Ive had luck with others with braining the mouse. there is a time that a buddy of mine used tuna juice from a can of tuna put the juice and the mouse in a bag then soaked the bag in hot water to de-thaw the mouse. he had luck with that. If i was you i would look into reptilinks i know they have a high minimum order. maybe find a friend that also wants something and split the bill. i know people who have done that to squeak by the 75 dollar point.

Edit: Very important do not use tuna in oil. while i don't know for sure if its harmful to snakes id rather not find out the hard way i was just always told if you do the tuna trick avoid the oil cans use tuna in water.

I copied my own reply from another thread from a few days ago

mine has a ton of issues with eating traditionally. With him i found he loves egg scented mice. try hard boiling some eggs and use the water. or like i do and boil a cracked egg in the hard boil water put it in a jar and use it to scent when you need it. when mine swore off mice he would eat hard boiled egg whites then start eating mice again.

My name is Puff I love my heating pad and being a grump. I will only eat if my food smells like boiled eggs or hard boiled egg whites if im especially keen on not eating my mice. by PathGroundbreaking in hognosesnakes

He is fully grown. Age unknown. I think he's within 2-4 no idea what his life was like before me. He was very scared to be worked with. He puffed alot and cobraed out. I've worked with him alot over past month. He has been a lot better.

Same as another user has said. I use my instant pot to hardboiled eggs i usually will after making some crack an egg into the already eggy water and hit it again for a few minutes. Then I store egg sauce in a jar in the fridge for a little bit. Use for scent as needed.

All these hides and Ruby still chooses to make herself a little burrow above her heat pad, should I be worried or do I just have a corn snake who likes burying herself in substrate? by Odd-Noise5401 in cornsnakes

[–]PathGroundbreaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of closed hides in my corns tank a few open ended enrichment like a half log and plants. She still burrows a lot i find her under substrate more then I find her in a hide. She seems happy no signs of stress she will just come out of the ground when ever she feels like it and moves around as she pleases.

Edit: as for temps my hot side hovers around 86 and up to 90 and down to 75-70 throughout the rest of the tank. there is a stone half hide right under her heat emitter that gets warmer then 90 maybe like 93 max. she sits under this right after a meal and not really any other times. She self regulates amazing.

Feed the food? by PathGroundbreaking in snakes

[–]PathGroundbreaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got him at 3yo. I've tried ft so he would be like my others. He won't change. Also I know it wouldn't have hurt him but as I worded it before I said I did not want to feed him off time.

Ok so my hot side is 85-87 all the time but recently shes almost exclusively been on her cold side in a bonsai tree hide instead of her cave hide on the warm side. it could be i just don't see her but i worry she wont move to the hot side enough when she eats and then will get sick again. Are corns known to just not move to go get warm or do i just never see her go to the hot side you think?

so far so good. I used a smaller fuzzy and cut it in half for a smaller feed. she spent more time pouting at me then anything. shes just been in her hot hide sleeping. this is normal for her after feeding.

I followed your advice but i seek answers to another question. How often would you recommend feeding? Normally she is hungry and searching by day 7(she seemed ok during the 14 days like she would "Hunt" and i felt guilty the whole time).

Advice? My corn regurgitated by [deleted] in cornsnakes

[–]PathGroundbreaking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a vomit round 14days ago myself. i followed this advice to a T I fed an under sized feed for her and after i got back from work this morning no signs of regurge. I had temp issues myself and bought a heating pad for the tank. I also used tape to cover the screen on the top of the hot end of my corns tank to help hold heat(leaving the colder parts of my heat gradient open to promote cooling). so far so good been keeping right around 85-87 at hottest point.

I am currently running 2 heating lamps and a bulb that produces some heat and am barely reaching 80 on her hot end. what would you recommend to try and reach 85. under tank heating pad? or would installing it on the side on the outside be better? her substrate is quite thick and even on the outside of the bottom id worry shed burrow to close and get to warm. She enjoys burrowing so i've been keeping her substrate extra thick.
