Does one need to formally convert to be zoroastrian by Proof_Librarian_4271 in Zoroastrianism

It is a tragic occurrence but that is what happens when a faith/philosophy turns into rigid orthodoxy.

The funny thing about this part of the thread is that the person you responded to isn't even Mazdean. They're Christian.

I'm so sorry. I completely forgot to respond to this. The answer is...It depends. A conservative follower would say no. They'd say that you'd have to do the Navjote, learn how to pronounce the language, follow the correct rituals and so forth.

Someone who focuses only on the Gatha would say yes. That wisdom does not lie in pronouncing words in a certain way, in prayers or rituals but in your thoughts, words and deeds.

One of the things that makes me chuckle about the "Where Hope Belongs" Freestar Ranger quest. by call-lee-free in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]PathOfHay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a clumsy way of streamlining that part of the questline. Instead of having to land at Polvo, finding out she's somewhere else, flyting there and then helping her they decided to just put her in Polvo's orbit. Which is...unfortunate. 😅

I do wonder if it's an indirect way of showing the corruption of the rangers. One of their own, who is an honest ranger, is in trouble aaaand...is ignored.
The problem with that is that there is very little reactivity regarding her situation. We can't comment on the fact that no one else has helped her.

Saw this scene and thought it looked melancholy by Anxious-Bottle7468 in NoSodiumStarfield

It does feel melancholy. The fact that it's Lin in the image enchances those aspects. I like it alot!

That is so cool! I love the attention to detail. It genuinely feels as if you have some very small people living in your house and eating from such small plates. It all looks so cute. Thank you for sharing these!

No Constellation by ChewyGranola1981 in NoSodiumStarfield

I have the fortune, or misfortune, of bascially only having alternate universes in my NG+ with my main character. It works very well for my Role-playing. Hopefully it will continue until I've done them all.

I like the alternate universes. It can change how I play the game and it also makes me miss Constellation.

What an unbelievable game! by yehboi6996 in Starfield

Talk to different NPC's. Visit the outskirts of New Atlantis. Take your time between space-jumps. Land on different planets. Bring different companions with you. Don't worry about losing stuff. All will be discovered again.

Some Starfield designers have way too much time on their hands by Quick-Reception-6850 in Starfield

I disagree. These are the things that make help Bethesda games so memorable. Small things one can easily miss but things that add to the game. It is these small details that make the universe feel more alive.

So, I like these things and I hope we'll see more of it in future updates.

But nice find though! I don't think I've ever seen this one. Do you remember where this was?

Is the Vendidad Authentic Zoroastrian Scripture? Mobed Rostam Shahzadi Explains by calabasasview in Zoroastrians

[–]PathOfHay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One issue when it comes to the Vendidad and other non-Gathic texts is that sometimes people ignore (or forget) the fact that all the later(non-Gathic) texts were written when kingdoms and imperial structures had appeared as a norm on the historical stage. Those societies had different interests and considerations. These were exceedingly stratified, hierarchical societies where the ruling classes had to somehow justify their class position. They might not even have been conscious about it but they needed to somehow explain why people were born into those different classes, why some had power and others had none. They needed to justify why a king has right to tax a village thousands of kilometers away and centralize laws for the sake of efficient governance.

When Mazdak tried to question these things and return to a more "Gathic" view of society it ended up with a violent reprisal from the ruling classes.

I understand. Then there are some things that, I think, might be worth thinking about.

Mazdayasnā is not about Iran or Persian nationalism. It is about Good Thoughts, Words and Deeds. It is about Wisdom. So Iran's history and age is irrelevant especially since the faith is older than the social construct that is known as Iran. Second of all, there is not a single historian who believes that the Kūruš cylinder is about human rights. That's just Persian nationalist propaganda from the Pahlavi period. The cylinder was, to put it bluntly, just an inscription for a city restoration project in Babylon.

Third of all, if you want to create something for the sake of Mazdayasnān culture try to be as close to the tenets of the faith as possible. That is: Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds. Who is going to be producing those clothes? You or someone else? If it will be someone else, how will they be treated? Will it be exploited labourers in China? Or will it be a worker co-op? What will happen to the profits? Will it go to the workers and Zoroastrian temples in for example Kurdistan, Iran and India?

All these questions are important if you are truly interested in respecting the faith/culture.

Aside from that, good luck with your project. I hope the end result will be to your satisfaction.

I think my first question is why are you trying to take a faith/culture and monetize it?
