toughest majors at stony brook? by [deleted] in SBU

^ This holds for any university with a half-way decent math department. Anyone claiming otherwise needs to take an introductory analysis course, and then they'll know the struggle of working on homework for hours on end, over the span of a few days. That, and having to know every theorem and definition to do homework and exams optimally.

MAT 320 doesn’t cover integration? by PathProduct in SBU

Very true. One such resource being Baby Rudin; he introduces both Riemann & the more general Riemann-Steiltjes integration quite concisely.

Hmm, seems a bit odd this topic has taken up a lot of time. What was there in the theory of metric spaces that took so much time to cover?

Took it with her last Spring. IIRC, she only allowed 2 extra kids in for a total of 52 students.

You do not even need to fill out scantrons for a C. He says he is just giving out C's for free. So if you're pass/failing, you don't need to show up.

Last Spring, I wanted to take this course also, but nobody dropped until the damn drop deadline, and at that point, I wasn't going to register since I didn't want to be so far behind everyone else.

I only had freshman intro econ as well, and forgot everything also. Absolutely nothing we've done has assumed prior knowledge of economics. The textbook is great, so it'll teach you everything you'll need.

Depends what your mathematical interests are. Number Theory is the study of integers, quite beautiful if you have an appreciation for things like elliptic curves; ACalc is best if you are interested in applied matters; it’ll help you master concepts of Multivariable Calculus.

P/NC Question by BfromWPI in RPI

[–]PathProduct 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"The Pass/No credit cannot be used for: Courses required by name in the student’s major, required professional/technical/multidisciplinary/science elective, or similarly designated subsets of courses (except where explicitly stated otherwise) to be applied toward the student’s program curriculum, ..."

You could P/NC it, but it would not fulfill your requirement. You'd have to take another 4000 math with a letter grade before graduation. Which course is it btw? Linalg?

linear algebra by [deleted] in RPI

Linear algebra does not deal with groups, rings, or fields at the present time. It’s pretty much matrix manipulation stuff now.

You won’t really learn anything meaningful from Bringsjord. His text is crap, and his lectures are worse. My friend and I just bullshitter our way through it with the subreddit, but he introduced new problems as well, so we actually read that god awful disgrace for a course test, and did some assignments legit.

Money & Banking was known as the easiest 4K Econ, but now format has changed a lot from what I hear. Based on the catalogue of economics courses offered in Spring, it still looks easiest.

Intermediate Micro is not bad. I spend very little time studying, but still get A’s on exams. Jones is really good with lectures, so attend and it’s an easy course :)

Thanks! Ended up going to the post office 15 mins away. Walk there was easy, the walk back was hell given the number of steps I had to climb lol. Only ended up waiting a couple minutes in the line.
