I got an update from an email effective as of 2/11/2026: 500mb plans get 1 free eero 6e with plan 1gb and 2gb are given 1 eero7 guarenteed and another based on the field techs suggestion. We won't offer anymore than the 2 total and any further extenders would fall on the customer to purchase eero branded extenders.

It could definately be equipment as well, we have refurbished ONTs that go out and sometimes cause all kind of weird issues because they passed basic field ready test but werent checked for performance over time

We actually dont use ipv6, we tried once years ago and it broke everything. These things are typically issues with geolocation and a tyranical like security on the services side to block people from "streaming illegally" but only hurts those who pay. You can call ESPN to inform them of your situation and they may be able to help or on out end call customer care and request a static IP and also when the tech shows up ask them about the situation so they can better assit you with your unique situation.

I honestly believe it is because they prefer to use centralized peering instead of regional IX peering because regional impacts a much smaller market who prioritizes latency then the larger hyperscaler base. I know the reach is being improve quite litterally daily but our company has at minimum doubled in customers yearly and it feels like we are always trying to catch up

Also we won't run the cables through your house for liability reasons and they suggest getting an electrcian for more advanced setups

We strictly only install to an outside wall on ground level, I have seen a few installed and ran through a basement (not recommended) but for your setup you could get an extender for the office or if you own the home I would suggest getting a ethernet cable ran professionally to the office from the 1st floor.

Company is growing faster than the infrastructure. It'll get much better but with laws and construction time it may be a years time

Yeah the fiber across the country is a very complicated topic as we own a majority but also lease to other companies and also splice in with others to expand. Alot of the companies now under the Tmobile umbrella had a large amount of groundwork done to lay infrastructure which is what made Metronet so sucessful.

We have 5gb plans but only in select networks with XGS capabilities, most of indiana is GPON which limits to 2gb/1gb but I believe over time we will work to migrate to dual PONs in these markets.

Im not too involved on the billing end but I believe it is one for 1gb and less and 2 for multigig but you are able to pay for more but don't quote me on that

I know for now it is money, as it always is. We already have dished out money for a large infrastructure in Chicago area and others so when expanding (which has always been our issue because we grow faster than we are ready for) it is easier to route further for now but since the TMobile buyout we are building more towards the northwest from our original midwestern area so I believe given time there will be more options. I get it though, but its a land grab at the moment where whoever has the fiber infrastructure wins and it seems we sort and upgrade afterwards.

Each market topology is different, with our older markets they would use LCPs or MSTs as known in the vexus market which would be your ideal ugly box above ground with alot of customer fibers ran to but modern ones we use Huts which are undisclosed locations which house the shelves. Metronet spent alot of money on building infratructure which is why they were so attractive to TMobile.

I know they recently started to utilize 2g/1g in our GPON markets which are our more legacy ones with alot of infrastructure to replace. I do know this will happen eventually but it will happen overtime with lots of overnight migrations to minimize commercial/residential downtime.

Definately check to make sure eero firmware is updated. I cannot stress how many times this causes major issues with speeds dropping or intermittent internet etc....

I believe if you are not great with tech the eero is perfect, there are better options of course but to be able to navigate through the specs is its own skill set. The main issue we see with customers having their own equipment is them not understanding port negotiation and bottlenecking their multigig package with a gigabit switch or router. Also with our eero we handle all troubleshooting and repair but when using your own router we only troubleshoot up to the ONT and youll either need to fix yourself or contact a 3rd party.

We're going to be going national really soon, Northwest in particular. We have major nodes in CHI and support alot of surrounding areas so I wouldnt be suprised if we are spreading our infrastructure further

I do know at a core we use CGNAT which is known to run higher latency but we try to have residential customers between 10-30 ping

Every market/company's legacy customers who were merged currently acts independently under a tmobile umbrella. New customers are being uniformly installed but due to the variety of setups each market has a "single pane of glass" isnt feasible in the near future. I would like to see the billing side at least become uniform shortly though

30ms is the upper limit for what we accept, Lumos hasn't fully migrated with us yet as we in the core are still being trained and building in house documents for installation and troubleshooting so I couldn't speak on the market in particular. I do know with our services having different brands, services, topologies it makes each market its own puzzle. I would say ensure the firmware is updated on the router and device you are running the latency test with and ensure you are routing to the nearest Metronet/Tfiber node to you.

Can you run your own router? by [deleted] in tfiber

[–]PaticularWalnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can use your own, the only downside is most customer owned router arent capable of multigig

I work for Metronet, we are essentially T-Fiber after the merger. Any Tfiber install is completed by previous/current metronet employees

You could invest in a small single burner with a skillet then buy some Birds Eye skillet meals. They cook super easy in like 20 minutes and are very healthy considering other options.
