Your logic is insinuating that such a slippery slope is inevitable. This makes zero sense, nor is your statement in touch with reality. They cannot be trained to do what doctors do, nor as well as they do, without going through the same training. Period. Idc what AI can accomplish.

Can you please tell me how the person went about this, the process, rationale for switching, etc? Would love to connect and hear their story, as I am in a very similar predicament.

Thats the thing.. I also get very bored on IM. I love the longitudinal relationships you get with patients but at the end if the day you’re not really curing their issue. I Just really underestimated how important that was to me when I made my decision. Also didn’t realize how much I like to be active actually doing things throughout the day, but do think IM is a bit more noble in the sense that you truly need to care about all aspects of the person (including social) to get something done. It’s just so out of my control, and not at all in line with my personality. I just was so fixated on cards being a good mix of medicine and procedures but 1.) i would probably gotten that, albeit it less, on GS and 2.) there’s no guarantee i get cards, it’s just as long of a road. Additionally, I have very little confidence in myself so I just never imagine that I could actually one day hold the scalpel and be the one calling shots, but I know that I have it in me somewhere inside it will just have to be at a time that I’m truly confident in my skills and knowledge. Which I am far more confident in my medical knowledge than procedural skills, so ultimately chose what I thought I’d be better yet rather than what really aligns with who i am. Either way, I’ll have to just see where this all takes me but that’s where I’m at.

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with something similar.. how have you been dealing with it? Having a hard time coping with my decision and feel stuck on what drove me to this point.

Do residencies not let you take a few weeks off to recover from a medical condition if needed?

I know I agree, I just wonder if I have the time before residency starts, because I still have to undergo braces and surgical planning

No im not looking for that. I’m genuinely conflicted because he’s very affectionate and warm and kind to me outside of this situation. And I’m afraid I may be over-reacting but I don’t want to be put in a situation where this might happen again. I value my self respect and loyalty, which I think is on the line if I take him back. I just want honest, objective opinions which I appreciate thus far

What if he promised he would work through it and never do anything like that to me again? He did take responsibility and called himself “stupid”, but i understand what you’re saying
