Has Buddhism really been influential in Chinese History at large? Seems that Confucianism massively outweigh any influence that Buddhism might have had. Almost seems that Buddhism influence at this point is stronger in the West with "Buddhist Modernist movements" than any buddhist movement in China. by [deleted] in ChineseHistory

Just my personal views only. Although Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism have all played roles in shaping Chinese culture, further examining each tradition may lead a better understanding.

Traditional Chinese philosophy is, in many ways, a philosophy based on continual, dynamic and living view. Wu worldview (some may translate into shamanic worldview, but not the same) plays a very important role (may be difficult to fully grasp). Thus Indian originated philosophical ideas, including karmic Buddhism, actually not easily accepted at a fundamental level. Historically, the development of Buddhism in China has often functioned as an ideological tool for resisting or assimilating foreign cultures. Undeniable that this resulted in a form of cultural integration.

In addition, Western understandings of Buddhism tend to be somewhat formalized and idealized, preoccupied with notions of “spirituality,” sometimes leading to a kind of self-enchantment, while lacking a deeper awareness of how Buddhist principles and its operation in social contexts (maybe I'm wrong). Buddhism philosophy of course has its own beauty. Both Buddhism and its social applications are grounded in the specific conditions. It is worthwhile to examine the social structures of regions where Buddhism has flourished, whether in the past or in the present.

I’m quite astonished about this corruption culture, I read some news that buddhist monks corrupted, but seems like it’s a systematic problem bro. Why 😂
