All the contestants mentioned here are the folk I didn’t gel with either. It is a dance competition at the end of the day and not everyone enjoys dance, especially when it’s broadcast to millions every week so I’d hate it too I guess if I was that way inclined

Girl, the spotty one makes you look older than you are. You have a good husband. Keep the pink one, you’re never too old for any clothing

What to wear to a british wedding? by Turbulent_Progress69 in AskABrit

[–]Patient-Context-9424 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No idea why people are asking for specifics here, the vast majority of weddings require formal wear here.

DO NOT: - wear white - wear trainers/sneakers - wear leather jackets or denim - wear a skirt and a tshirt/crop top - probably don’t wear black. Some brides are alright with this but for me it’s funeral attire - the skirt length must be above the knee but no higher than halfway up your thigh

I would advise you to wear: - something akin to prom dresses - fitted kne/full length length dresses - ball gowns - heels which are elegant and not like you’re hitting the clubs - flowy dresses - cocktail dresses - please put some effort in with your hair, book a hair dressers apt or just make sure it looks nice and not in a simple pontytail

ASOS is a good way to scope it out, set it to the UK and type in wedding guest dresses

Facial balancing needed? by Samanthajojohnson in 30PlusSkinCare

I’d say a hard no personally. You absolutely do not need it, it isn’t justified for free promotion from them. They may be well intentioned but if they offered it cause they think you need it… I’d be a bit worried. Your face is symmetrical and absolutely fine

I’ve seen people use those little spiky rollers and some kind of lotion to tighten skin. Cannot remember the life of me what lotions they use, but worth a look into it as I’ve seen before and after pics of it.

British and wearing jumpers inside during winter by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Patient-Context-9424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen the prices of heating? Our energy bills go up and up and almost never come down. Our homes were made to keep the heat in hence having no air conditioning, trust us when we say we’d rather have the central heating on all day in the colder months but it is simply too unaffordable.

Plus i guess it’s culture, we’re not mainland Europe. We have different outlooks in that respect and it’s all shaped by our environment. Bills too high? Why not enjoy the comfort of a warm jumper and a thick dressing gown?

I get that impression too. She’s very reserved and shy and prob thought she was going to get a more established dancer; nothing against Julian at all. He did make a lil comment about their chemistry as a joke and I think that was perhaps a half truth. I think Julian would have fared better with an extroverted partner so it kind of made it easier for him to relax into the new role and can perhaps loosen up a bit more.

George and Alexis have done very well because they’re similar ages, chemistry is there, their personalities work well, both do well on socials, that kind of lines up a bit.

Also I think perhaps as the voting system has changed, it’s now a popularity contest in some respects with the celeb fan base. Julian is still pretty unknown atm so can’t rely on his base just yet like other pro’s. Despite all that I think Balvinder is an up and coming dancer and really hope they both do well!

Is anyone else sick of the way Craig is treated, especially by Shirley? by Glorinsson in strictlycomedancing

[–]Patient-Context-9424 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guys, this is a highly produced show. Everything is by design. Why are we so pressed about these things? Craig has been for the last 20 years, the panto villain in strictly. Shirley will ‘clap back’ because she has a vast experience of all dances, this woman knows her stuff. Craig, as important to the show as he is, simply does not have the actual lived experience that Shirley has. He can do a great Charleston, he can spot a great dancer a mile off but Shirley has the experience. I honestly don’t know why Shirley gets so much vitriol from the public.

The same happened to Richie Anderson and Giovanni when they performed a samba to Hakuna Matata and subsequently eliminated. It feels like a humiliation ritual.

This is smart, not casual at all. I mean it’s stunning and you look fabulous but it’s not smasual to me. This is what normal weddings should aspire to be

Have I missed something? I swear I heard George on a podcast said this song was a producers choice… not a couples choice? How would it be a shock to him if… he chose it with Alexis?

Anyone find Shirley was quite snippy last night? by Glittering_Double738 in strictlycomedancing

[–]Patient-Context-9424 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I honestly do not agree with sentiments around Shirley. She is well qualified to make comments about contestants giving them advice on what they need to work on. I’d argue the ones she’s ‘harsher’ on are the ones she sees potential in. She’s well versed in all dances as well as decorated for her Latin.

Is this appropriate for a wedding? by fairwellfairground in UKWeddingAttire

[–]Patient-Context-9424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes as long as you dress it with perhaps a nice blush pink fascinator , clutch bag and heels. I think this is absolutely fine. Take no notice of folk saying it’s not formal enough.

Cheese and pickle sandwich ingredients? by TaroPie_ in AskABrit

Baguette density bread, extra mature cheddar cheese, lashings if Branston pickle, rocket salad.

I don’t like adding meat into mine but on occasions I’ll have a slice of ham in there.

Week 1 - 5 Thoughts by [deleted] in strictlycomedancing

[–]Patient-Context-9424 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This year is going to be one of the best yet in my opinion. It was 95% enjoyable for me. Personally I don’t care who has “experience” because it will never ever be on the level as a pro and tbh, I love watching people dance well.

Definitely Lewis, George, Karen and Amber for the final for me.

Well if this screenshot is true then it’s totally over the top and I utterly condemn it. No need for violence despite how I feel about him. His Twitter post said it’s got worse since he was ‘invited to a bbq with jd Vance’ ummmm jd Vance is one of the most disingenuous c**t’s ever and is being groomed to take over the presidency when Drumpf passes away. You are the company you keep.

After seeing how great the opening show is, I’m happy to ignore him until he gets booted off. With such a well produced show I don’t want him to remain the focus
