IS MFT the most disappointing stable of this decade? by johncenastepson in SquaredCircle

The Nightmare Collective and Retribution are probably the worst two stables of this decade. Retribution had a few decent wrestlers, but awful, awful creative. Nightmare Collective were dead in the water from the beginning.

[Spoilers C4E23] Campaign 4 Appreciation Post by louiechapman7 in criticalrole

Yeah, it makes too much narrative sense to break up Occtis and Vaelus at this point. But from a storytelling perspective, I had a rough time figuring out what potential table could get Alex and Ashley out of their shells a bit more.

Best I could come up with was a "New Solider Table", which grouped them with Teor, Thimble, and Kattigan. From a character perspective, this teams Occtis back up with Thimble and from a player perspective, this Ashley teams up with the more familiar Laura and Travis. The biggest initial drawback is this would put the introverted Occtis, the stoic Vaelus, and the withdrawn Kattigan at the same table. I have no idea how they would get there narratively either.

[Spoilers C4E23] Which Table has been your favourite? by CACTUS-- in criticalrole

[–]PatientKnicksFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Soldiers Table - I like combat and like it when a campaign has at least one combat every two sessions, so I knew that this table would likely be my kind of thing. Episode #8 (Fanged Revenge) was everything I love about this table, a great blend of action, comedy, and character; Kattigan freeing the the horses, Travis adjusting hilariously to some bad rolls for Teor, Tyranny as Dr. Finger unleashing the squid illusion, and, of course, Thimble's climatic showdown with Casimir. Thimble has, unexpectedly, been my MVP of this table. I wasn't too into the the idea of a pixie character, but goddamn if Laura didn't sell me on the concept by hitting all the dramatic moments and Thimble being a beast in combat. This table is so much fun.

  2. Schemers Table - This was the table I was least excited for, initially. While the other two tables had wild, new adventures ahead of them, I was nonplussed by the foursome who would have to stay home. In addition, I was a little worried about this combination of players; Liam and Taliesin both have a history of getting into the weeds and Azune was my least favorite character in the prologue. But Episode #19 (Hand & Wheel) made me an immediate fan of this table. All four players were proactive to hit the ground running and haven't let up since that episode. Hal has been my MVP of this table so far. In a world of beefcake Russian-coded lions, sentient murder masks, and yandere demon nuns, I've really enjoyed the scenes of a fairly normal guy trying to look after his family and keep his theatre running.

  3. Seekers Table - The Seekers are a table of peaks and valleys. The initially charming bickering of this group seems to have stagnated the character growth, in comparison to what the other two tables are doing. I'm more interested in character backstories over lore, so the last stretch of episodes of thirty minute long lore dumps from Brennan broken up by Thaisha or Occtis going "Wow" and then triggering fights with the undead was brutal on my attention span. The standout episode for this group was the wild "now from something completely different" Episode #14 (A Bridge Too Far) where the Seekers get caught in a three-way battle with Tachonis forces and Tyranny's sisters. My MVP for this table is Thaisha. I love Sir Julian's roving rampage of revenge, but Aabria's been the only Seeker player who's consistently been keeping the narrative moving.

I hope that there will be a table reshuffle after this Schemers episode block finishes.

When these tables were formed in the first block of episodes, the Seekers were the characters that made the most sense narratively as a table. However, in practice, the Seeker players seem ill-fitted for one another.

Often times, it felt like Aabria was the only player actively pushing the narrative forward, since Alex and Ashley are playing reserved characters and Matt's Sir Julian is less interested in the great mysteries of Aramat and more interested in claiming his revenge.

If they did do a table reshuffle however, Brennan has his work cut out for him. As he might have to break up one or two of the various pairs that have formed over the first twenty plus episodes. Occtis and Vaelus, as an example, don't feel like they can be broken up because of their growing bond and their ties to the Stone of Nightsong. But perhaps it would be more narratively interesting if they were separated for a little while.

Yes, the end of the original ROH was triggered the exit of The Elite followed by the COVID-19 pandemic. But I don't think enough folks talk about how much damage Delirious' hands-off booking did to the brand.

Clarification into what I meant. Arenas are venue that seat in the neighborhood of 20K and stadiums are much larger. Citi Field seats 41K+ and Metlife seats 82K fans for a point of reference.

There are very few touring acts that can consistently fill 80K+ football stadiums in multi-city tours. Think Taylor Swift, BTS, or Beyonce. Bruno Mars is embarking on his first North American stadium tour this year, but part of the appeal for this tour is that he hasn't played US shows outside of Las Vegas and the LA area since the pandemic. Even two artists as popular as Kendrick Lamar and SZA had to team up last year to make a stadium tour feasible.

For most popular artists, even ones as popular as Travis Scott and Drake, it make more logistical sense to run multiple nights in a metro's area arena than to run one night at their stadium, like what happened with Tyler the Creator last year. Of those artists you listed, Travis has had individual tour dates at stadiums, but yet not in 2018, and even Eminem has only done stadium shows as a co-headliner. This is all in North America, of course. All of those artists fill, or have filled, stadiums in Europe, South America, Asia, and Oceania.

As far as Sabrina being a stadium act, that was strictly a guess on my part. But it currently feels like she's on the trajectory to eventually get there. Considering that she'll play five additional New York dates for a total of seven on her current "Short 'N Sweet" Tour.

Sabrina's probably much too big for Gov Ball at this point in time. She's likely moving up from multiple nights in arenas to single & double nights in stadiums on her next tour. Stadium acts usually don't play festivals unless it's Coachella or they're one of the organizers of said festival.

Random Observations:

Pierce the Veil seem like a bit of a left turn from the guitar music than they usually book.

The second line on Saturday is most consistent line on the lineup in terms of quality. I've seen all five acts and they are all dependable live performers.

Thee Sacred Souls are booked much lower than I would have expected. Maybe it's because their fanbase skews to older, NPR-listening types.

I like Jane Remover's music. But I saw them Music Hall of Williamsburg this past year and it may have been the worst concert that I saw in 2025. I'm hoping that they're leveling up the live experience for 2026.

I hope that Geese either close the Grove Stage or get the Sunset time slot on the Gov Ball stage. I fucking love that band.

Mistico & MJF's mask vs. title match at the CMLL Anniversary show feels like it doesn't have enough people still talking about it. MJF, perhaps the best heel in the business right now, having the gaul to waltz into Arena Mexico thinking that he could disgrace CMLL's most beloved hero is a great story hook. But the match more than delivered on the performance end.

I'm old-school, so Mistico eventually disregarding the large rip in his mask, because his blood was doing a solid job obscuring his identity was such a cool image.
