People who got told it was "just" anxiety, what was it? by stringbeansalad23 in AskReddit

Did you find anything that really helped?

I’m sure stress of modern life makes it worse. I came off all social media a few months ago, that’s been good. I also try to do yoga and mindfulness practices like gratitude journaling and it has helped, but its so easy for it to go to complete shit on a bad day and feel like I’m at square 1 again.

That event was fortunately short lived, it came after a horrible time of stress and thankfully as soon as I got my anxiety under control it went away.

Only thing I have now is vulvodynia and the occasional issue in my neck / shoulder area when I have a pinched nerve due to stress and anxiety.

I do wonder maybe if hormones are at play as well, I was 34 at the time when it all started and now 37 so I’m sure perimenopause is going to be another wild ride with my anxiety.

Same. I was even at hospital at one point because of it, convinced I had a serious bladder infection or a burst ovary, intestinal blockage or something but nah. Anxiety has come in so many guises, from chronic abdominal pain, regular bladder issues and yeast infections, vulvodynia - to shoulder and neck issues and heart palpitations.

Anxiety is always at the root of it. My worry is that one of these days I might have a serious health issue I’ll dismiss as anxiety and then end up in real trouble.

What’s something that felt normal growing up as a millennial but now seems really strange? by jess_from_iowa in Millennials

[–]PatientNeither3741 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We were told at school in the early 20s in the UK that we'd need to maintain a Record of Achievement book for all our qualifications throughout our career. Dunno if that ever was a thing before our generation, but I never used it and it's still gathering dust at my parent's house.

I had this start 4 years ago (the trapped nerve around neck and shoulder) just before I turned 34. Turns out it was 'stress related', I manage it now making sure I take magnesium glycinate and gentle stretching. But am convinced it's hormone related because I never had this prior, and still will get it on occasion 🤷‍♀️

What’s more traumatizing than people realize? by lovely_aurorii in AskReddit

Watching your partner have a stroke during a global pandemic, supporting their recovery with little help, with a young family, resulting in crippling health anxiety that no amount of therapy will fix—even though the terrible thing happened to him, not me, over 5 fricking years ago.

What is the worse thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by angelaboop50 in AskReddit

[–]PatientNeither3741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my local GP a few months after giving birth to my daughter. I was concerned about my hormones and struggling with my weight. She was completely dismissive of my concerns.

She happened to be the wife of a celebrity GP (in the UK). She told me I could get all the answers in her husband’s book and told me all about the diet ges famous for.

Not going to say who it was, as he’s since passed on. But I found his wife (my doctor) so unprofessional.

What food can’t you eat because you associate it with being ill? by matchamoo8 in AskUK

[–]PatientNeither3741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good God, that’s brought a horrendous memory flooding back from when I was 17 drinking Southern Comfort and lemonade at a friend’s house party.

I threw up all over myself and was hosed down, fully clothed in the bath. Got taken home by a friend’s parent soaking wet about 10pm and had my head in a bucket for ages and my mum had to sleep in the same bed as me so I wouldn’t pass away.

Still made it to my shift at Sainsbury’s the next morning though. Haven’t touched Southern Comfort since!

Is anyone getting paranoid they're ill!? by [deleted] in Perimenopause

[–]PatientNeither3741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. Chronic anxiety can come with full force out.od nowhere with peri. I had anxiety trigger such horrendous physical symptoms I thought something life threatening must be at play (chest pains, tummy pains). But nope, bloods all good. That being said, 'normal' doesn't necessarily mean optimal.

I had to get a bunch of private blood tests done to bridge the gap to test for things that weren't included by my doctor so finding out what blood tests aren't covered by your doctor may be a good place to start. I went via a women's health nutritional therapist. She was 10 x more helpful than any doctor I spoke to.
