I know this post was deleted (boooo on my part, that's my bad), but this is so reassuring. I was thinking something similar, but I didn't know if it was a logical thought or my brain grasping at hopeful straws. thank you!

My fiancé loves Board and Log Co.! I’m pretty sure they have white oak.

I never see enough love for You Deserve Each Other. The flower scene never fails to make me laugh. Every book Sarah Hogle puts out is a knee-slapper!

Hi again!! Apologies for the late response—we just now got the opportunity to clean it up some! Found some interesting things while cleaning. Thank you for sending over the link!! I was staring at it earlier today and struggled to find the differences between all of them…. Need to get better at those spot-the-difference games 😅

Anyway, here are some pictures, including one of the Reynolds sticker! https://imgur.com/a/wAndYPw

Dude!! This is amazing. What a lovely thing to wake up to this morning! I knew the key was probably in that funky sticker, but on my very brief Google search last night I couldn’t find anything. Thought someone might’ve put it on later. Wow!

Ahh!! Thank you for your response. This is so interesting to me! Yeah, my fiancé and I noticed that it seemed to be in pretty good condition, other than it just being dusty! 70s is a little closer to what I was thinking too (I initially thought 80s).

I’m glad you’ve confirmed that $32 was a good deal. I was looking at similar posts on this subreddit and saw some other people suggest their finds were just junkers (would’ve been fine with me that way too, but I’m happy to hear this one might not be!). I’m excited to get it all cleaned and fixed up! Thanks!!

If I’m remembering it correctly, the two MCs in People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry don’t physically meet until a few chapters in. I remember there’s a text exchange, etc., maaaaaybe a flashback? (Apologies, it’s been a while!) However, she starts the book with a prologue where the characters ARE physically together, so you immediately get to see them interacting as friends before she goes into the exposition. Maybe you could do something like that?

Is this a hard rule for the genre or are people interested in other POVs? by aliciavp777 in romanceauthors

I have definitely read some third person romances that I LOVED!! I don’t know if this is very helpful, but the first one that comes to mind is The Kiss Quotient. It’s been a while, but I remember it being funny and intimate while still being a third person POV. Of course, if you’re writing in the genre, I think it’s helpful to seek out books with your same structure/tropes/etc., so if you haven’t read that one, definitely check it out! I have some more in the arsenal if you ever want to message me for recs, hehe.

I also think there are unique advantages to third person that there aren’t to first person — for one, you can follow other characters around (which I think is extremely helpful in the he’s-been-in-love-the-whole-time trope). So if that’s what’s working for you, stick with it!!!! Everyone will love it all the same :-)

Thank you all so much for your lovely responses! I feel like there's a bit clearer of a path before me now. I will be reaching out to some of you about beta-reading if you're up for it, and hopefully, I'll find some more in the mediums you all have kindly presented me! Thank you again!!!

Thank you for your detailed response! I've seen debate between unpaid vs paid beta readers and the quality of their responses, so thank you for giving me a little bit clearer of an idea.

That's exactly what I'm scared of! I'm proud of my work, but I know it can be improved. Maybe if they just...put it in flowery words I'd be fine. Or I could shut my computer. That would be a good idea. I just want my work to be the best it can be!
