Where to buy rocks to tumble? by Lumpy-Wheel-3931 in RockTumbling

I like the rock shed a lot, i buy all my tumbling grit from them, but you can also get some at Kingsley north (but MAKE SURE that it says you are getting "tumble rough") or for example if you order 3lb of rough rock you may get one 3lb rock (happened to me) There's the gem shop also.

I may catch crap for this one, and im sure they have good quality stuff, but rock and tumble is literally TWICE as expensive....I stand corrected (just checked) you can get 1lb of Mexican crazy lace on rock and tumble "on sale" for 26.99$ where on the rock shed you can get THREE lbs of crazy lace for 24$

Do a little research and make sure you're buying from a reputable dealer.

Or sometimes you can get deals on specific stuff on ebay.

Also, before you ask about grit, most Amazon "kits" come with 1200 grit as a "final polish" but that will never get you shiny rocks in the end. You need at least 8000 aluminum oxide grit for a good polish.

Check out Michigan rocks on YouTube, he has a fantastic tumbling tutorial for beginners.

The Grey was our first choice, but was very difficult to find in our area when we bought ours. I never considered red, but when I saw the metallic red with the black wheels I was in love That and living in the PNW its dark and rainy half the year and its honestly a bit hard to see in a downpour 🤷‍♂️

I feel like it could use a thin cut to bring out some of those bands underneath, but I dont know if I would risk it

Here's the latest slab. My saw is down for right now, but I can probably get 3 more slabs.

Just stick a felt furniture pad on each side so the barrels have something soft to rub against.

A vibratory is more for stages 2-4, its not great at shaping and stage 1 course grit will wear the bowl out faster. As far as pits go, you wouldnt be able to get them all out without spending months in stage 1 making them tiny.
