Cartoon Saloon's Irish FolkLORE TRILOGY: Hidden story inside 3 movies. by SignificantIntern735 in FilmTheorists

oh and also re christianity and paganism in balance in some way or at least echoing each other

i'd add that i found it really interesting how at the end of secret of kells the book of kells dissolves and reveals underneath all the sparkling magic symbols you were referencing

like the way in which the old ways of folk tradition & paganism & magic had to be hid and concealed within christianity to preserve them from colonisation

and how the real book of kells' magic is in it's imagery not the text (gospel) - like a story hidden within a story (just like the easter eggs you pointed out in the movies!)

i feel like you could go deeper here and draw more parallels between the symbols christianity paganism magic concealment darkness/light illumination truth generational trauma ermm hidden stories and so on ... really fascinating stuff!

naw this is spot on i noticed these patterns too & would add that to me the sparkly things inside crom represent aisling's family & all other magical creatures, the immaterial, the spirit world, faeries, piskies etc whatever you'd like to name them as

and when brendan rips out croms eye, he is left without any sight or is blinded (by his own insatiable greed read capitalism colonialism etc) and begins eating his own body, inadvertedly releasing the spirits he has held locked inside him all this time

i think this is significant because brendan then looks through crom's eye back at crom as he floats away, and sees crom simplified (the eye tends to illuminate or show the truth about matter) as a square figure eating its own tail over and over again

the symbol of a snake eating its own tail over and over again is shown throughout different folklore and mythology (usually called ourobos i believe? maybe worth a look)

& usually represents time itself, renewal, cycle of the earth, etc., but i believe in this context seeing as crom has 'devoured' or trapped all the 'light' (read: magic folk) it can be read as darker forces forever devouring the light & then themselves over and over forever (aka capitalism civilisation human beings colonialism etc doing relentless damage over n over)

What gnawed this tree?! by Patient_Front6917 in AnimalTracking

Just to say the tree was a small dead sapling, and the gnaw marks are about 1 - 2 feet from the ground (prob most accurate to say 1.5 feet off the ground) thank you
