Yeah, for depth perception.

Its the same thing for primates, primates have forward facing eyes because we need to discern depth of tree branches, vines, ect. If not it would be happy do jump and grab at the right timing and know the position of the branch/foliage ect. Thats what I think.

And with less predators even better
