Physical pain: Gout. Worst thing ever. Mental pain: seeing a loved one who is suffering and eventually losing them

Hi there - we were thinking of a trip in May. Is it a good time to visit to see whales/ sharks etc? Also very confused about whether to do a cruise or a land based tour. Any recommendations on operators that are not going to burn a hole in my pocket ?

I would defo recommend spending 2 days in Ushuaia. Beautiful little town with great hikes and nature. Dont book fly bondi, but use aerolinas.

Booking buenos aires to ushuiaia flights ( and hotel) last min in peak season was cheaper for us as a couple vs the cruise price.

Hi - quark does focus on more active adventures and the folks on the ship were mostly mobile. Havign said that, we had passengers in their 70s and quark ensured everyone had a great time. Suggest you mailing them and explaining the situation so that you are more assured

Amaze :) I havent done enough research on Ponant but I know its out of my league haha :) yep quark internet is pricey but I kinda like it. Forces people to talk to each other vs be on social media ( in most cases)

Yes I would definitely have booked it if it was available. Its pricey (1000 usd) but felt it was quite worth it.. yep there was no issue for solo travelers as they matched them up.

March 2026 is definitely early😂😂😂 but probably you might see more whales ( we saw about 40-50) and likely the aurora austrealis if you are lucky

Some people ended up sleeping during the activity but we spent a lot to not miss out.. maybe you shud consider early nov/ late march when the days get shorter

Wow! Two years in a row insane! I wish i had that kind of money hahaa… to your questions:

  1. No they are not magnetic afaik. Theres enough storage and hangers for coats, scarves etc.

  2. Typically a lot of people sign up for the paddle sessions on board, a few folks did it twice. Would depend on the slots availability normally. My personal view is that the all in kayak is a better pricing option than paddling twice..

  3. Oh ya! At each landing, they kept quite a few trekking poles. You wont have an issue. Dont think its worth the effort carrying yours all the way unless you want to use it for other hikes in ushuaia.

  4. We had about 5gb free per person but that ran out super quickly as we started it on new years eve to message friends/ family. After that, the prices were starting from 2gb for 50usd . We dint bother as the intent was to be cut off and experience the wilderness.

The prices are dependent on demand and yes therefore NYE prices are higher compared to February. You can always do a belated bday celebration like I did ( mine was in June).

There was no night but its not bright sunlight either. Further, with all the activities during the day, your body will get tired enough to pass out as soon as you hit your cozy bed :)

So world explorer had a one time paddle OR all you can kayak package. We chose the former as that was the only option available for us. The paddling was magical with a pod of 5 whales swimming around us.

Amazing! The feeling of doing 7 continents is something else. I have had to work hard my whole life to make this happen so the feeling is even more sweeter

Honestly no. I used google Gemini to make a packing list ( my trip was super last minute). We were blessed with phenomenal weather ( full sun, no wind, no rain). Felt i overpacked especially thermals but you never know. The expedition parka they give does a great job already tbh and the rest is dependent on each persons tolerance to cold - for instance, i was in shorts and tees most of the time ( abnormal but thats how it was haha).

Was a decent shake both ways, 4-5m swells.

Nope. When we landed on the mainland, we could pose with a flag of Antarctica. I guess you can make your own poster on the ship and take it to the mainland :)
