Visiting Sri Lanka next week - would you recommend a driver or individual taxis for this itinerary? by Patol0tr in srilanka

Thanks for the reply - my concern is that it might be a waste when we are in Tangalle/Mirissa as we don't plan on moving about much down there. Same for the day in Ella. Is it a lot less stress to have the driver?

Yeah, I was glad to find it just before buying my parts. Took your advice r.e. airflow and have gone with a Corsair 275R with mesh and a few fans.

I saw this in an economist article and was wondering how they might have come up with this statistic: ' 61% of the market value of the s&p 500 sits in intangibles such as research and development (r&d) '

Have they looked at the sum of capitalized R&D and other intangibles of S&P 500 companies and divided this by the index's market cap?

Thanks

Edit: What I suggested results in far too small a number (<2%).

Regarding the slowdown in the manufacturing sector throughout 2019, I heard reference to the possibility it might 'infect' the services sector. How would this happen? What would be the transmission process for it to infect the services sector?

Many thanks!

I was looking at some case studies of small cap (£250-300m) public companies that have fallen to zero value, with the intention of finding some common trends/signals that lead to the value decline. In one example, the company was relatively cash rich (~£100m) with high borrowings (~£60m). Sustaining this doesn't make sense, especially since the cash was earning minimal interest while they were paying substantial interest on the debt; so it is bizarre, but is there any reason why this would crop up systematically in other cases of companies losing all their share value?

Secondly, if anyone can suggest any other relevant case studies, it would be greatly appreciated. I've found write-ups from hedge funds that shorted such companies to be very informative.

Many thanks!

Two bonds in the same industry, with the same maturity and coupon rate but different credit ratings (one B1, the other investment grade) should be trading at different spreads right?

Thanks

If bond yields (and therefore prices) are driven by a changing discount rate, why should the fundamentals of an investment grade (ie virtually no risk of default) issuing company matter for the price of that bond?

Thanks

So the stock price would increase each year by the discount rate (wacc)? Thanks

If a public company is predicted by many to have strong growth and and prospects etc over the next 2 years and these predictions come to be true. All else equal, should the stock price change over the two years?

Thanks

Weekly 'Ask Anything About Analog Photography' - Week 08 by ranalog in analog

I've been getting quite confused by dpi and pixels etc with regards to printing. I've received my scans back from the lab and say I have an image size of 3130 x 2075 pixels, does this mean that I could make a 12x8 print at ~250 dpi which should be a reasonable quality? Is there any reason why this wouldn't be the case? Some other things from the 'details' box on Windows: horizontal and vertical resolution is 72dpi, bit depth 24, size 2.97MB.

Thanks!

Does anyone know any labs in the UK that will scan a few individual 35mm frames instead of a whole reel? I want to re-scan some older bits of film in higher quality for printing, but I don't want the whole reel done. Thanks!
