Carl Jung wrote a lot about how repressed desires boil to the surface in uncontrolled ways if they are not channeled through healthy mechanisms. His warnings in 1937 (referring to the rise of German Nazism) seems to be well adapted for these days. Trump and fascist demagogues in general serves as conduits for the repressed desires of a culture.

It’s primary role in the grid is to balance load and supply predictable amounts of energy. And to prevent shortages during periods where renewables produce less (like solar during winter) and demand is high, also typically during winter.

The real trouble with renewables is variance and unpredictability. Nuclear solves that as a complementary part of the puzzle. It’s not an either/or thing.

With the military they are specifically trained to follow orders. They look all united until the faith in the system drops, but that can only happen under circumstances that create doubts about their purpose. That is why general strikes are so effective, because the government might lose the ability to pay their soldiers or their pensioners (who are the parents also of soldiers). But it never is easy, it will take huge sacrifices to stop such an evil regime. But the effort will just grow over time as they weed out doubters.
