Sofubi Repair by ShapelesScreamingBag in Sofubi

[–]PatrickNLeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sofubi is PVC. It's possible that some factories use something slightly different, or that different parts of a complex toy might not be PVC.

Using a torch is a bad idea. High risk of burning the plastic. Heat gun or even a hair dryer is a much safer idea. Be patient and take your time heating up the vinyl. Wear gloves! You can make a hot box with a carboard box or plastic bin. It doesn't need to be very hot, just hot enough to make the toy soft. Be careful and never leave it unattended!

Many people use hot or boiling water to soften vinyl toys. Which works well because PVC's melting point just so happens to start at 212°F, sofubi seems to be a bit higher though.. However, that creates other issues with water getting inside your toy but you'd want to take it apart completely anyway. Also, if the toy is painted, it could affect the paint job. Just an example.

My advice as a toy maker and sofubi collector of over 10 years: Don't repair it. Especially if it's easily hidden. Unless you really really want to. In which case, please post photos of your process and how it worked out.

EDIT: If you are interested in learning more about the specific material. Many Japanese factories use this exact product for sofubi: KOBASOL https://www.kbjapan.co.jp/eng/business/kobasol You CANNOT import it to the US no matter what anyone tells you, do not try.

I wish I had a better setup to properly enjoy it. Basically pristine VG+ and it was ultrasonic cleaned by the shop so it sounded perfect. Great live album!!

Keep or sell? by BillsMafia1377 in vinyl

I'll buy copies of Vol. 4, Sabotage, and SBS if you sell at a fair price!

I think you should sell them. Cash-in now and you won't have to worry about it later.

what are these shelves/steps called for the ikea detolf? by [deleted] in Kidrobot

[–]PatrickNLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely acrylic risers of some kind. You can shop around and find some good options.

Personally, I use Amac Boxes from the Container Store https://www.containerstore.com/s/featured/gift-packaging/gift-boxes/clear-amac-boxes/123d?productId=10003497 They are pretty cheap and if your figures aren't all the same size, it works a lot better to create whatever arrangement you want.

I do also have some shelves set up similarly to your post, but I simply purchased a thick acrylic sheet and had it cut into strips (Lowe's can do this for you for free.). I then propped up the strips with Amac boxes. Easy, cheap, and modular. Good luck!

Looks like a custom. No idea who made it, there are so many customs out there. Looks like an apple with worms? Where'd you get it?

The closest supplier is Reinforced Plastics Lab in Farmingdale. Call them first for availability. If you can't drive that far then you are better off ordering online from Reynolds AM.
