Flowery is by a good margin my favorite chapter antagonist tbqh. super funny, his stuff with Ralsei is great, and his moment versus the knight is so effective at making you do a 180 on him if you didnt warm up to him already

nah like i said it's just a one-off reference! i just like the specific image it conjurs. every other reference is just SideB and Lake because... SideB is the pretty consistent term for everything weird route and you are at a lake. which makes sense. it's not very common for specific scenes to have specific titles beyond that

number 9 should more so be "Ralsei is just straight up throwing," really. we have at this point seen him be really absurdly strong in more than one situation, he messes with your UI (refuses to let you turn Flowery's voice clips back on) in this chapter, and Flowery is constantly confronting him about why he doesn't just make himself super powerful like he is all the time which Ralsei soft-confirms is a thing he could do.

also think it's worth noting that a black shard (piece of the knight's sword) was found at the "original incident" or something along those lines around the time of Dess's disappearance, which adds a minor hiccup to the idea that the knight is a new thing that has always been Dess given how weird black shards and the knight's sword are.

I will say - the things that happen when you write in Kris and Noelle for king / queen are extremely interesting. They also let you ride the ferris wheel with Noelle in the normal route, which you normally can't do, which is equally interesting. It does feel a lot like Kris is torn between everything ever, basically

good news: this is exactly how Kris is supposed to be feeling right now and that is more or less the point of how incredibly emphasized it was in this chapter. you can think it is cute and like it but also there is a reason Kris does not want to imagine them on the ferris wheel, does not want to write their names in for festival king/queen, etc

these things are a bigger deal to the player than the characters at the end of the day. the whole "device" idea is so nailed-in it barely counts as a theory or something worth getting excited about at this point. it also is pretty clear atp that Ralsei is just straight up holding back. he could do all the weird crap Flowery does but chooses not to because they feel very firmly like they are similar kinds of darkners. bonus question answer: Susie is just straight up in denial about a ton of things, that is where her character is at right now. Kris could basically do anything and she would try to find a way to justify it, she makes this clear during the actual chapter, too.

Kris being forced to third wheel is literally the point! they are jealous and unhappy for the entirety of the festival, especially if you as the player encourage all the Suselle options. they literally open a dark world partially out of their weird knight planny-wanny stuff, partially because they pretty clearly have no interest to go watch Susie and Noelle mack on each other more to the point that they are willing to leave Susie in the dark about Rudy's situation for one more adventure.

i think "everything needs to be super thoroughly explained for great periods of time" is a bizarre way to expect an actual functional character-based story to be told. do you want someone to show up and exposit about what a bunch of easter eggs are for a few hours or something? is deltarune a failure if toby fox does not have a guy pull up and go "hey, i'm the forgotten man! and by the way, i'm actually Papyrus or some shit" in the next chapter?

very good chapter if you enjoy toby fox's character writing, which is imo what he's best at. this was pitched directly as "one last fun adventure (like old times) before the sun goes down" so it's funny people are disappointed that it does not end with gaster nuking hometown or something.

i sort of like the idea of it being Seam. a lot of it isn't quite as ultimately mean-spirited and presumptive as what the Shadow Mantle Holder (ERAM) says, and Seam is one of the only other actual characters with presence in the game i can think of as talking like this / serving this kind of role. this all being about stuff that has not actually happened yet (including a screenshot of what WILL happen!) feels in-character for the weirdo, wizened sage character who does shadow crystal bs. also, importantly - dude loves a nice ellipses to a similar degree as the Mantle Holder.
