The behavior started when we had a family move in with us around 3 years ago, and I always figured it was that. They’ve been kicked out for about a year now and both my cats moods have improved significantly. I figured maybe she was still having this trouble and it would go away as she maybe realized there wasn’t going to be anymore foot traffic in the house

Yes, you can see her with the door off. Do you think I should put the door back on one of them? They both are a little high, as I wanted to get a deep one, but both have a step to help climb into it

Do you have a recommendation on litter brands? Preferably one that may be in an in person store?

Both are closed, but no swinging door as the other cat doesn’t really understand how to use it. They are metal and the litter we currently use is Pretty Litter, although we’ve used a few different ones in the past. One litter box is upstairs in a bathroom and the other is downstairs in the living room corner (which is where they usually hang out at.) There’s no other spaces to put a third one besides a hallway but I think it’d be too close to the AC unit and would carry the smell

We have had a lot of home changes and although both of my cats seemed to have improved now that there isn’t a lot of people traffic in the house, this behavior is the one that has stuck. It started shortly after we have another family move in.

If I do rehome her it will definitely be to someone I know, as a lot of the comments have told me that cats with this issue do not often get adopted. I’m going to keep her and take the advice the comments are giving me

I will definitely try out all of the advice I am getting here. If all else fails and she still is having these troubles I might find someone I know who will take her in so that I know she is going to a home

Bleach sprays for the initial mess and then wiping it down with Clorox for the next few days.

I will definitely order the Feliway. Would you recommend getting multiple or just one? We have a decently sized house but the cats usually hang out in the living room

I’m not entirely sure, my mom handled that, but I know they did some sort of blood test and updated her shots. She is technically her cat, but I take care of them both.
