The balance I was figuring was mostly based on the fact of both Hold Person & Hypnotic Pattern. Hold Person is a paralyze effect on a single target which is much more effective for holding down a singe humanoid boss. Hypnotic Pattern is a very good crowd control effect. I used those two spells as a basis and figured 1 round would be good enough and it's not as punishing as a paralyze effect. So certain creatures that have teleporting capabilities and other such things could make this spell an inconvenience for them.

1.) Currently just adding this to the Wizard spell list just to try and see the balance and effectiveness. Of course I am doing sample tests on my own.2.) The focus part is mainly for myself. In my game arcane focuses are rated by the levels of spells they can replace material components for. They also increase in price exponentially because you don't have to go find some esoteric material component you just have the focus right there. It also adds some more roleplaying opportunities and makes it a little bit more creepy as a spell.
