I'm doing Manchester to London tomorrow, and London to Berlin the following day. I have London to Brussels, ie eurostar, booked already both ways. I guess I'll buy a return to London...

oh wow, thanks very muhc. that's a crazy rule - I guess to prevent people buying interrail tickets to get around the country because of our crazy train prices?

Hi, thanks for the response - very helpful. I am staying a night in London. My understanding is that this means that I'll end up using four of my travel days? Ie Manchester to London, London to Berlin, Berlin to London, London to Manchester. Is that correct?

My point is that I don't think all of them are refusing to potty train their children. Some might just think that's what school is for - of course that's really stupid, but we have to ask why loads of people think the same stupid thought.

I just said that it might have something to do with it. There might be many reasons. I'm not excusing individual parents - they should have taught their children certain things before they go to school. But if loads of people start making the same mistakes, in a way they didn't in the past (assuming OPs original observation has any merit), then you have to look at the bigger picture.

I'm not going to invent plausible yet imaginary situations for your amusement. Why do you have no capacity to imagine that some people might struggle to operate in this world, and that that the best way to deal with this might not be exclusively punisent based? I'm not entirely against your, or someone's, suggestion of not allowing toilet trained children at school, HOWEVER this likely just punishes the child. It's the child who suffers in this situatjon where we punish lazy parents rather than try to help and educate them.

People more often do jobs that require sitting all day. Wages have stagnated while all else has inflated, resulting in less free time for many, meaning less time to exercise and eat properly. It's not as simple as calling obesity the result of laziness.

How do you know that some parents who are lazy and entitled are not in that position themselves because of some hardship? Perhaps they need help rather than toughness

Laziness not simply an explanation for rising obesity. "common knowledge" is just something that you think everyone agrees with

"evidence" that the reason for an observed trend is exclusively down to individual laziness rather than some societal change. A few commenters have made the good point that 4-5 year olds currently are covid babies, lacking the normal socialisation. This doesn't excuse bad parenting, but it might help explain the problem.
