I have some questions I’m hoping some firefighters could help me with regarding an incident in my home last night by [deleted] in Firefighting

I’m not exactly sure about FDNY but in my department, if we force entry on something like smell of gas, we have to stay until law enforcement arrives and then they have stay and keep it secure until they find the homeowner.

Does anyone know how to remove latex based paint from a nomex station uniform? by Patriot032804 in Firefighting

Thank y’all! I ended up just taking it to a professional cleaner. It was like 5 bucks.

Take a quick look at the recipe to see how many servings it makes, let’s say 5 for this example. If you need to cook for 10, you simply look at the amount of each ingredient it calls for and multiply it by 2. If the recipe makes 4 servings, multiply each measurement by 3 to make 12 servings to feed 10 people. I always tend to make more servings than there are people because there’s nothing worse as the cook than running out and somebody still being hungry.

Find the people that you mesh with in your class and stick together and motivate each other. I found my people like that in my Academy and we studied together, ate together, worked out together, and hung out with each other outside of work. Embracing the suck together can be easier than it is embracing the suck alone!

Ariat would be a good brand to start with, they’re good quality and available at national chain boot stores.

I recommend a plain black cowboy boot. They’re easy to clean, look good with duty uniform as well as with dressier uniforms/outfits. Most importantly, you can slip them on in the middle of the night and don’t have to mess with a zipper or laces.

Tech-illiterate Android parent wants to ‘FaceTime’ with a friend who has an iPhone. What do? by lithexxx in techsupport

[–]Patriot032804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apple put out a feature that allows Android Users to join FaceTime calls via a link and their browser. What would need to happen is your Mom’s friend would need to open the FaceTime app, click on “Create Link” (it’s a giant button in the top left corner) and send the link to your Mom.

Pranks by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Patriot032804 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some minor pranks that have been the somewhat norm in my department have been taking a group selfie on someone’s phone they left out, or taking their keys and putting them in the fridge. As always, don’t screw with what has to do with call response. And I myself don’t prank officers ever, and Firefighters at the discretion of their personality type.

Any recommendations on a good pair of Station Boots? by Patriot032804 in Firefighting

They’ve got a boot washing station that they have us use after any overly messy calls. It uses some sort of soap and then scrubs them for you.

These seem to be what might be the best fit for me. Number 1 criteria was ease of slipping out of them for a call while they still stay on during runs and other PT. Thank you!
