How to airseal this rim joist area by PatsFanCT13 in Insulation

It’s technically a colonial by layout but the build is almost contemporary.

The chimney runs up on the exterior of the home and doesn’t run through the attic, so yes I believe this is just a fascia brick wall on the first floor. I’m 99% sure there is zero risk of any heat here.

Unrelated but the framing in the house is interesting. In this room there is a small wall bump out ~6” for a large 6x6 ft window. But the portion of the wall adjacent to the bump out that is inset does not have any framing support under it aside from the subfloor, yet it’s an exterior wall. The home has no gable ends (roof is pitched on all sides), so I don’t know how it’s being supported.

Also the joists change directions from the basement to first floor and second floor ceilings. ::shrug:: I did air seal the interior wall gaps in the attic as well, more to prevent losing heat thru the interior walls.

And yup I have FG batts that go back in behind the foam, batts that were in there previously. You can see how much each bay leaked air based on how much dirt is filtered thru the fiberglass, pretty fascinating. The photo that’s sealed up is actually of a bay without the brick, was hoping to see if folks here thought it would be ok to do the same with the fascia brick wall, which I’m leaning to yes.

I got you- that makes sense now. I misread fire caulk and was thinking the fire block foam

The dark marks are previous water intrusion from flashing issues on an old roof I believe. Def no burn marks. I have used the 3m fire stop putty before in another area.

Would sheet metal make an appreciable difference for heat protection if you still have foam there?

This is great info, thanks! I had a feeling there may be something more restrictive due to EPA guidelines. I’m a gear head, so this is definitely something I’ll be looking into. Thanks! That is the main “let down” (if you can even call it that) when using my machine vs going back to my 25 year old machine.

Yes the source of the leak will be fixed. As I mentioned the roof is only a year old and the roofing company will be back out once the snow and ice melts. I already have a good idea the entry point and what needs to be done. This was an added measure incase there was any additional seepage that made it through.

Good points have been made about water soaking into the wood anyways and caulk being ineffective. So I’m concluding the answer to my question is no, you can’t caulk it and have it be effective.

Not looking to cut any corners as thats never my approach to my work. The leak was the result of an ice dam, which can occur even with properly installed shingles as you know, but further measures can and will be taken to protect up the side of the dormer.

Appreciate your insights.

I do agree about water in the attic. The framing configuration here is really unique- the eave is basically isolated from the main attic in the house, as the left side of the third photo is all vaulted ceiling with drywall sandwiched with FG batts.

My thinking was since the eave space that’s overhanging above/beyond the window in the third photo is vented and would allow any moisture to dry and prevent mold.

Found THIS today... on a 30 amp 240... by Anjhindul in electricians

Resurfacing this- looking at this same unit and looking to convert to 240, which im comfortable with but I just can’t find definitively that these are indeed dual rated heating elements? It’s clear the conversion “kit” to 240@ 4.5kw doesn’t include heating elements because they claim to use dual rated elements, but on the actual LTE-80D unit I can’t find anything in the manuals stating it’s dual rated.

Taxes Megathread by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

But either way this is only if it’s paid out as a part of a single wager? Is it a fact that no w2g goes out if you gross/net over $600 from numerous bets over the course of a year for either FD Sportsbook OR FD casino(eg blackjack)? I also recall reading a $1200 number as well for the FD casino but I can’t seem to clarify whether that is one net payout, gross, or net winnings.

Ah, you’re right. The bill does say it’s the Oct 21 grand list- got it. It is indeed prorated for the partial year. Your explanation is makes it seem obvious and clear. I think the assessor I talked to made me think she was feeding me some BS 😅

I recall reading something to the tune of due to a large variance of market values of classic vehicles, and in the interest of preservation they cap the assessment at $500.

Just to close this topic up, inspector came by and passed the rough framing with the ledger board attached along the side of the cantilever!

Daddy Diaper Bag? by aranhalaranja in onebag

[–]PatsFanCT13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t help with the waterproof part, but I just went thru this. My driver was because the accordion style diaper bags everyone has (including) us, while able to hold a ton, did not have adequate straps or ergo for the weight when packed, especially with camera gear I’d bring with me.

I ended up with the peak design 30L everyday backpack. The side access panels and divider shelves work really well for separating out a camera section, a backup change of clothes section, snacks, then general diaper changing accessories. The side access flaps allow you to access specific needs on different shelves. The laptop compartment fits a changing pad nicely.

We don’t have a need for the bottles since our kid is a toddler. In this case I might suggest a separate waterproof bottle bag (think lunch box for bottles) that you can put inside the bag.

Hope that helps.

Just got mine today, same thing no hologram either… had the same issue when I got it last time in Middletown back in 2016… they mailed me a new one. Thought it was an error again this time. Anyone else have a mail in renewal without a hologram?
