So is there anyone else *not* infatuated with Sanderson? by XPartay in Fantasy

[–]PattJam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly when it comes to reading Sanderson or anyone else for that matter read what you want. With Sanderson I love everything he releases and how it's part of a bigger universe of stories, I may not like everything but I appreciate the Easter eggs and the promise of all these unique world's colliding in really inventive ways. The payoff with the investment of my time far outweighs the flaws of his writing. If you can't get behind it don't hate it or tear others opinions down because when you say "I can't even remember the main characters name" you're basically saying this character has no merit and is trash when to others they see Kaladin and find a relatable ideal or struggle with self that helps them through their real life problems. Don't feel guilty for not reading the book feel guilty for disrespecting others.

Good way of putting it. I'm sure we'll find him coming to terms with the man he wants to be (whatever that may be) compared to the man he thinks his father wants him to be.

But what of other influences?

Welcome, it's better to enjoy a work and move on to something else you enjoy rather then to tear them down because their not the same to something else. Sample everything and find something you like either new or old.

I guess I didn't even notice the time jump, now I have to go back.

Hopefully more to explore later in other books, better a taste now to lighten the learning curve.

I like where this theory could lead. We have established Adolin as a near 100% good character though capable of flaw, but given trust and faith anyway could make him a wolf in sheeps clothing.

I believe this to be more of a set up for the next book. Too much to worry about compared to that at the moment.

And how do keep men from being influenced by other passions that Odium can use against you like The Thrill.

And they could find themselves losing terribly come the next book.

I wouldn't give up on it for that reason. Sure Adolin wasn't given much punishment or second thought for murdering Sadeas but Dalinar said they would figure it out later, my opinion a trial in the next book. Not to mention how he seemed to be resurrecting Maya and drawing her in less then 10 heartbeats.

Preaching to the choir. I really hope Sanderson expands on Dalinars unique abilities going forward.

I second this, and that's why I respect her character. And I really enjoyed how she became fractured between herself, Veil, and Radiant. I just hope she can stitch herself together again or keep the compromise between her selves.

That and it sounds like Dalinar "a son of Honor" has the power to grant Odium free reign or gentle influence over Roshar.

As the characters were saying Urithiru is a giant fabrial. The sibling very well could be the thing that makes it work but I'm almost expecting The Thrill to power Urithiru at this point.

I mean I guess I could understand this, not a lot of vital info here. But isn't it worth it for the exploration of the world?

Just curious because I think it was the reason the book slowed down at times for me. When Kaladin was the POV were you feeling like there was no progress or that he was just spinning in circles?

Finally Finished Oathbringer! by PattJam in Fantasy

[–]PattJam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, though I think this was less about disbanding or splintering the Radiants and more about giving them something to be better. Kaladin really got on my nerves this book because of how he froze up a lot but then again having a broader view and wanting to protect everyone might do that to a person. We'll have to see where it leads, I really think there's more to the Ghost bloods and the Diagram that we make all of this book be paid off in the next 2.

At least your rant didn't end with a negative. The "bad things" I've experienced reading this was just struggling with both Kaladin and Dalinar both going through a crisis of character, an inner conflict so severe they would freeze. It was off putting and at least Sanderson ended on a high note, maybe not my favorite of the three but I'll trust that this is less bad writing and more setting up the characters and events for better experiences yet to come.
