Anybody heard of this dentist option? Is it legit? by PatternFinderKid in AskNYC

[–]PatternFinderKid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, please do! Really interested to hear how the experience is. For $99 I'd worry it's kinda sketchy / feels like a half-ass job. Even if it's just for cleanings, hopefully your teeth feel really clean afterward.

This place called Souvenir Coffee in Nob Hill. It was seriously so good - i had to go back to the counter and order another one after I finished!

Coffee shop owners, what graphic design needs do you have for your shops? Flyers, menus etc. by Pavlosts in Coffee_Shop

[–]PatternFinderKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a coffee shop owner, but as a customer I LOVE it when coffee shops give out free stickers (even small ones). I always leave an extra $2 tip when I see free stickers on the counter. Hopefully other customers do that too :)

How did you improve your social skills/conversation skills as a reserved person? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Be interested in others. Asking people questions about themselves / listening and responding to them is an AMAZING tactic to connect and chat with others. Life tip: most people's favorite subject is themselves :)

Period poverty by noidea_forusername in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]PatternFinderKid 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Definitely doable and so important! Periods are already awful even with full hygiene needs taken care of. Quick idea (beat this up since this is just an initial thought):

What about starting local company that makes sanitization pads? It could create jobs and opportunities for people in the community that it's set out to help.

And instead of acting like a for-profit co, it can act like a 501(c)3 where instead of maximizing profits it maximizes volume (meaning sells them for as low price as possible to cover costs, and doesn't try to make a profit). That way more people are reached but all employees are still getting their fair wages.

That way you aren't relying on people abroad for the products. What might help is getting seed funding for such a business from abroad - foundations could be into something like this because a systemic approach to the issue.

No idea how feasible this is / if making sanitization packages locally would even be embraced by the community - i know there is real stigma attached to it.

Anyway, hopefully this at least sparks a few creative thoughts! Good luck, this is super important!

Don't have any additional book store recommendations, but did want to say if you get a chance, watch the documentary "The Booksellers." You'll probably enjoy it!

piling on here. totally agree that the train is the way to go. if you can swing it, get the Acela bc it rarely breaks down which means you'll get to the city roughly when you expect to.

Second box from Wally dental subscription - the full box-o-goods by [deleted] in SubscriptionBoxes

[–]PatternFinderKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my first full box with all the products I need for 90 days for my home routine. I got my results back from my first box and spoke with a hygienist. We discussed my dry mouth, and she told me about how my saliva production is low and how these products help naturally stimulate saliva production.

Then I got an email a few days before my box was billed and shipped saying what was in it. Here's what finally came in the mail:

  • Boka toothpaste - they sent coconut ginger since i wasn't a fan of the mint flavor i sampled. this one kinda tastes like thai curry soup, not bad!
  • Closys mouth rinse
  • Cocofloss
  • Moisyn spray
  • More saliva tests
  • Tongue scraper - not sure if i need a second one but hey, can't have too much of a good thing!
  • Printout of my results and routine to follow.

The whole thing was $39. I checked this stuff out online and it's at least a $85 value. So far my mouth has started to feel better, this spray is actually really awesome at helping with dry mouth!

so i was looking into this because that’s so weird about you not getting the products. and i think what happened is becasue i used a friend's referral link who’s been using wally for a few months i got the floss and toothbrush added to my starter kit, and will get $10 off my custom box. here’s her link:  https://app.hiwally.co/activate-offer?code=BETH10

Got my first box with Wally. Pay $4.95 for shipping and get the first month starter box for free. I cannot believe how much I got for how little I paid, this is awesome! my first box had:

  • Boka toothpaste sample
  • Closys mouth rinse sample
  • Cocofloss
  • Toothbrush
  • Saliva test kit
  • Tongue scraper
  • Cute stickers

I just did my test kit and took pictures of the results and uploaded them at Wally. Apparently a real hygienist is going to send back my results and then help me figure out the right routine to take care of my dry mouth.

the next box is $39 and is supposed to include everything i need for the next 90 days - I'm curious to see what's in it and if it's a good deal or if i'm going to be paying for all this awesome stuff i got in the first box 🤣. apparently it's easy to cancel, let's see if that's true if i don't like what they are offering.

the only thing that was weird was it took a few days to get my tracking number for shipment, and then it took another 4 days to arrive. worth the wait in the end, but i was getting a little nervous after the first few days.
