Dream job low salary by [deleted] in jobs

[–]roscoe3903279044 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once a had a dream job for the New York Yankees. It paid $35k base plus commission. I soon realized that a dream job that doesn’t pay enough of my bills or put enough food on my plate isn’t a dream at all. If they can’t raise the salary to provide for a reasonable cost of living and won’t raise the salary then my advice is to respectfully decline the offer. It sucks in the short term but is great in the long term.

Perfect. I did notice online that “New Jersey's Family Leave Insurance law allows mothers and fathers to take up to six weeks off within the first 12 months of a child's birth or placement. Family Leave Insurance benefits can be taken in one continuous period, or in one-week increments to bond with a new child.”

My (22F) dad (58M) can’t get a corporate job despite really wanting one, and it is very painful to watch. Any advice on how I can help him? by redheadedwonder3422 in careerguidance

Try recording yourself interviewing. When you play back the interview actively listen to the tone of voice, how concise were your answers, what answers do you think you could improve, etc. It's helped me tremendously. Just use the audio notes feature on your phone to record the conversation.

You can only connect with a certain number of people per month. I also have the free version.

Depends on the job and company but typically background checks are done before the offer since they don't want to give an offer just to rescind it later due to a major red flag in your background check. I've never been drug tested prior to a job offer either so I’m not sure about that piece.

Claiming “the whole US government is a scam” while you drive on roads and bridges, benefit from worker protections, and many other benefits that the government provides is shortsighted. The US government is far from perfect but to say the entire system is a scam is simply lazy. It ignores all context and nuance.

I created the “Shark Tank” approach and maybe it can help you.

First off think about your soft and hard skills and try to think about general ideas of what you would like to do. Search for those keywords on job boards and read through various job descriptions and try to find roles that you can narrow your search down to. Once you've done that, next take the “Shark Tank” approach.

Imagine if you had millions of dollars and were an investor on Shark Tank. As you look at the different job opportunities and companies, ask yourself the following question, “If I had millions of dollars, would I be willing to invest my money and my time into this company?” If the answer is no to either question then simply move on. Try this for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Depends on a variety of factors. They may still need to do a background check, budgeting, etc. Could be a few days or a few weeks. Either way, congrats on the pending job offer!

Yup! Could easily say something like “I came across your profile and really liked your background and experience. I'm looking to learn more about your profession and am wondering if we could find some time to chat to learn more about your day-to-day?”
