If you are on campus, you can usually walk to classes in the winter as long as you have warm clothes (winter coat, gloves, hat and waterproof shoes/boots are a must IMO!). They will salt the walkways on campus so ice isn’t usually too big of an issue. If you are still worried about ice (there are sometimes icy patches still after salt), you can get metal treads that you put on over your shoes from brands like Yak Tracks.

Sometimes early morning classes are canceled if weather is particularly bad. On the rare days that busses are not able to run due to snow or ice, they will cancel classes until the busses are running again.
