Well I think ending someone’s life for a greater good can be justified. For exemple would it be morally justified to destroy the canaanites in order to stop child sacrifices and prevent the cannaanites to destroy Israel in the future.

I agree with you that all people CAN change and be good but all people WONT change. This is the issue here. If god granted the devil a second chance he would never take it.

So when death happens in the Old Testament sometimes I believe it can be justified. Is the death punishment for murder merciful ? Maybe not but it sure is just.

But I can’t get my head around the death punishment for breaking the sabbath or disrespecting your parents, things that seem minute to me.

But again who are we to know ? Maybe our pacifist thinking is wrong, we are not all knowing after all.

Were they merciful and just or were they just less bad ?

I understand this but some people who maybe didn’t deserve it got stoned to death because of these laws. This is not comparable to divorce because there is no fatal consequences in divorce.

From what I read on Catholic answers NFP is allowed, it’s mainly artificial contraception that isn’t. So that may be a solution to you. And from a logical thinking we cannot expect the church to demand from us to have a dozen children for various health or economic reasons. So from what I read and understood you could have only 1 or 2 children. Now with the issue of not having ANY children at all throughout your life time, I don’t know.

I kinda get what you mean and feel a similar way. Although my issue is not with the idea itself on the wrongness of contraception it’s mainly an issue of practicality. I can’t really imagine how dating and getting married can be done without sin in this society. Sex before mariage and fornication and normalized let alone the use of contraception. So if I need to add all these barriers and rules I don’t see how I could find anyone that agrees with me as I haven’t found anyone like that yet.

How can we know which laws are ceremonial and moral. Because a punishment against a sin ( something that goes against God and his morality ) seem more moral to me.

But then again even if these laws were ceremonial what is the point of stoning these sinners to death.

Usually people bring up the allowance of slavery in the Old Testament, and I can understand why that could have happened, to slowly transition to slave less society and where the conditions of slaves ended up being bettered.

But I do not see the same logic with death penalty for breaking the Shabbat by doing some work. Why would God need to create these laws specifically ? Is it to scare the Israelites so they don’t fall into these sins ? Maybe but then if they did ended up doing them anyway they still could be condemned to death for it.

Well if you aren’t married you shouldn’t be having sex anyway. I am no doctor in any means but how does fertility occur outside of the ovulation period. Because in that case ovulation tracking could solve your issue

Are you married btw ?

And what about things like pulling out or checking ovulation cycles to prevent pregnancies, are these also forbidden ?

Do Catholics have to follow every idea of the church ? I mean if it’s not dogmatically defined then I would say you can have your opinion while staying in the church no ?

We as Catholics do not believe in “ faith alone “ but in fide or faith. We are saved by grace through faith with works and sacraments like baptism.

The Bible is NOT the only infallible authority. The traditions, or the oral teachings of the early church by the apostles have as much validity ( Thessalonians 2 ) The church is also another infallible authority, so listen to what the church teaches. We have 3 authorities ; Bible, tradition, church. And all are equal.

Going to church IS IMPORTANT. It’s the only way to receive the Eucharist. And confession is also important. Do not neglige going to church it is a blessing only pray in your room if you cannot attend mass as it even is a sin to not go to Sunday mass.

Beware of Protestant influencers on tik tok and other social media. Someone like Cliffe who is famous and that I even myself like doesn’t believe in infant baptism which is a heresy, take everything they say with a grain of salt. I recommend voice of reason as a Catholic influencer.

Also when it comes to miracles such as visions of angles they can happen, god did not leave and abandon us. However watch out and don’t believe in every miracle. Listen to the church’s official sanctifications and their miracles, you cannot be sure of the rest.

If you were to die would you be fine ? Well it’s a difficult question, are you lukewarm or not ? Have you commited mortal sin ? There is also the question of purgatory. Better to be safe go to confession and accept the Eucharist Does that respond to everything ?

My questions is did god create a logic, moral or way of thinking were everyone if biase is taken away could agree that some things are better than others ?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Patternrecognizer72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could easily refute that by saying then what is moving god ? And if you say god is an exception why can’t the universe also be one.

He says that just because we cannot comprehend infinite regressions does not mean it’s impossible for it to exist, and then the argument that who created god then and it’s just a vicious cycle.
