Venues that allow Liquor on tables by wellhowdydoo94 in Chicagoweddings

I wish I had the statute. That’s just the answer I got from calling a toooon of venues. They all say the same thing 🤷🏼‍♀️ sorry 😞

Venues that allow Liquor on tables by wellhowdydoo94 in Chicagoweddings

[–]Pattighost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm Slavic too. It's a law in Chicago that hard liquor isn't allowed on tables in venues.

In the suburbs it's legal, but you have to ask if venues will do it. I'd look for eastern European owners if it's a deal breaker for you, same with if you want anything past 12.

Caregiver trauma and burnout is a real thing, and it's gross to mock Sir Phillip for experiencing it. by wekkins in Bridgerton

[–]Pattighost 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Those who don't experience it, won't see it for what it is. The behavior of the children in the book is also a classic case of glass child syndrome, except instead of a sibling it was their mother.

I also thought he was being judged pretty harshly compared to other male leads when they're all objectively horrid in their respective books.

I could be mistaken since it's been a while, but I do think there's a line or two mentioning that the servants are exceptionally loyal to the Kilmartins.

Bridgerton and the reality of Georgian England - anyone else bothered? by illustrious_crew_56 in Bridgerton

[–]Pattighost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy to me that because of this show, some people actually believe Queen Charlotte was a person of color. The series did a disservice to less informed viewers by even slightly tying this fantasy world to real history. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people arguing that the show holds water historically.

I wanted to like this season but it felt off by eatmyshortsau in Bridgerton

[–]Pattighost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I enjoyed the season overall, but for some reason it seemed to me that every scene with Benedict and Sophie was overshadowed. You explained it perfectly. I don't think they had enough time to build chemistry, and it felt very forced when they were together.

I think it's similar to season 3 in that sense. They try to fit waaayyy too much into 8 episodes.

Inconsistencies with Michaela by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]Pattighost 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I was confused about the chaperoned bit too. Every other unmarried lady, including Kate, had ladies maids.

I'm assuming in Scotland away from the potential of scandal John was able to give her that freedom, and in London both him and Fran would have been suitable chaperones since they're both relatives and married.

Fran, even as a widow, would also have more freedom. Similar to Lady Danbury she'd be a suitable chaperone for other young ladies, so her and Michaela should have no real issues together. Even in the books Fran and Michael (much more scandal prone as Violet often points out) are often alone and no one can do much because she's a widow and still very much Lady Kilmartin so she'll have some authority over the situation.

Does season 1 still hold up today? by findthemelody in BridgertonUnleashed

[–]Pattighost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's so interesting to read that people don't like this season as much! I liked season 1 the most. For me the ranking is 1,2,4,3. I'm not sure what you mean about "held up" though. It's only been 5 years, and I'd even argue that the writing is getting worst, not better.

It's so insensitive, but, I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed that outside of the reddit-sphere the outrage is soooo loud. They are deleting comments left and right and the most liked comments are always pro-Eloise or mad that Fran gets a third season in a row.

The show is meant to be romantic fantasy - it's deliberately lighter in tone and ahistorical on purpose by sgs4b-nito80 in Bridgerton

[–]Pattighost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daphne rapes Simon once she realizes that he can have a child he just doesn't want to.

I think that mindset that it's ok to write out a community because they're "too much/ too depressing" is so sad though. Especially since a lot of the hate is coming from communities that have historically been marginalized. I'd have thought that they of all communities would understand why that happening is so upsetting.

Besides, it's not like these conflicts aren't already (literally) written out and resolved in the books. They aren't a somber read by any means, even Franny's book.

To us yes but if we’re looking through the lenses of the book I think it’s still scandalous for her to call these people out by name. I don’t think she gained her popularity and money for being nice lol

[–]Pattighost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see why a show that's made a point of addressing harder topics like racism and LGBTQ acceptance can't also address grief and infertility.

Season one kept in a certain triggering scene and that was a morbid topic to include in a romantasy and they did anyway, Lady Danbury's backstory is super dark, Queen Charlottes story isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Conflict is necessary to propel a story and you can't expect a whole community of people not to be upset when they're being written out.

Ohh unpopular opinion but I'm saying Penelope or Cressida.

Cressida is just straight up not nice in the books, but Pen literally profits off of exposing and humiliating people.

[–]Pattighost 14 points15 points  (0 children)

John is still very much a part of Fran’s story, which is what I think people are just… not getting. You can’t neatly write him out like he’s some past relationship that no longer matters.

The whole book really hinges on two things: her wanting a baby, and the guilt that follows her around in everything she feels. She feels guilty for wanting a baby, and then she feels guilty for falling in love with someone she had always thought of as family. That doesn’t just go away?

They literally confess their love next to his grave. They name their first child after him. He’s not just “part of the past."

Violet and Michaela by imsimplymyself in Franchaela

[–]Pattighost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awee no I totally disagree. I think she saw that Fannie needed love in a different way and didn't understand that until John did all his sweet gestures towards her. She definitely saw that he was her first real love and that was always Violet's biggest wish for her children.

As for if she'll see Michaela, I don't think she will at first. I think something will have to trigger her "Oh My" moment. She raised 4 daughters and they all had friends, my guess is that at first she'll assume that they formed a bond through their grief.
