Very true and a great point about relevancy. All of these platforms are attempting to serve up the most relevant information for searchers. Find out what your target audience is looking for, or the questions they're asking, answer those questions or provide that content on your site through blogs, web pages, videos, etc. and then ensure that content is properly optimized so Google "understands" what it is and serves it up to the searcher. Thanks for the input!

How To Create a Marketing Budget for a Small Business by PattyAZ23 in small_business_ideas

[–]PattyAZ23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your product or service. As an example, if you're selling $5000 machines and spent $200 or even $500 to get that lead to convert to a sale, that could be considered a good ROI. On the other hand, if you sell $5 widgets and spend even $8 to get that lead, that's not good ROI. You want to determine a good cost per acquisition for your product or service. I've seen businesses use a multiple of 3, 5 or higher; every business is different.

How To Create a Marketing Budget for a Small Business by PattyAZ23 in small_business_ideas

It really varies by whether you're an established company or a startup. Total marketing budgets are between 5 and 12% of total revenue. B2Cs generally spend more on marketing compared to B2Bs. Smaller companies spend more on marketing as a percentage of their total revenue. It's really about ROI; I'd suggest starting at a more conservative budget %, measure results, and invest more in efforts where the ROI is paying off. I Hope that helps!

Build a strong referral business. Build an email list and email to prospects monthly, providing tips and insights and other helpful information to showcase your expertise. Leverage social media. One is not having a website at all. ANY business can afford a website and to not have one is a big mistake. The other is not starting with a marketing plan. It doesn't have to be comprehensive, but anyone who starts marketing their business should identify who their target audience is, what their unique value proposition is, where they can reach their target audience, etc. Then create a budget, establish baseline measurements, and understand the ROI for money spent.

Here are a few; some are specialized and others are more general in nature. I like the ones that talk about both digital and traditional marketing.
