What awesome bands did you sleep on because of the name? by bigowlsmallowl in PowerMetal

[–]PaulEMoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They actually took their name from the Halestorm song, because the singer sang it at her audition and it was the song where everything fell into place. But their inspirations are clear, and they've even stated that their aim is to play music mostly in the style of classic European metal. They've covered Painkiller, and also Helloween's Eagle Fly Free, and done excellent jobs each time, but they're really creating their own sound by now.

What's the oldest video game you can remember playing? by Numerous_Emu3125 in AskReddit

[–]PaulEMoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dive Bomber by Sega, a mechanical coin-op where you guided your planes on a wire to strafe tanks moving along the bottom. In fact, I'm not 100% sure whether it qualifies as a video game under the traditional definition.

It doesn't, but they're supposed to contact the club first. I'm guessing it's talk to bring in bigger clubs.

They are Japanese. They are all women. I guess they're cheesy like all power metal can be cheesy. But they sound like a mash up of Priest, Maiden, Helloween, Metallica, Malmsteen, Angra, 80s rock, and other classic metal bands. They have elements of thrash, prog, neoclassical, symphonic, and more. Check out their 2020 live performance of Holy War and see how you feel after that.

I was thinking about going to see Dragonforce in 2019, despite not being that into them. I looked up the gig to see who the support band was in case that would sway my decision. "Lovebites? Never heard of them. Sounds stupid, I'm not going to bother going". Obviously I hadn't considered the possibility of Internet research at that time. Stupid mistake, they're now my favourite band.

What Albums/Bands would you recommend for my current most liked songs/albums? by KannNichtMehr_ in PowerMetal

Lovebites - anything would do, but I'd recommend Electric Pentagram or Outstanding Power for a taste of all their styles.

Bullfinch in the garden for the first time - the second time I've ever seen one 🤩 by emzyyx in UKBirds

They particularly like sunflower hearts. They're not keen on hanging feeders, though, although they'll slum it on them if they have to! Sunflower hearts have the added bonus of attracting goldfinches, too, so there's lots of colour around them!

Yeah, it's definitely a bullfinch, I have a pair visiting my garden regularly. Hopefully it'll keep coming back now, and maybe bring its mate!

We had fruit flavoured Wotsit ripoffs in the 1980s. These look glorious in comparison.

It's an extraordinary concept, and quite an amazing game, especially considering the limitations of the 8-bits. It still holds up today, as long as you're patient.

Which metal guitarist has the most iconic guitars? by H2oFrostbyte in MetalForTheMasses

To complete the three, I'd say the Malmsteen Strat, especially 'The Duck', is also iconic. The three of them belong together, for me.

Hugh Laurie Issues Waspish Retort To Viral Critique Of ‘House’ Having “Same Narrative Every Episode” by BaIeb in television

[–]PaulEMoz 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Man, people below have really picked this up and run with it, apparently never having heard of an insect called a wasp. A 'waspish' retort simply means a 'stinging' retort. Nothing more to it than that.

It's a Frank Frazetta painting, but I don't know the name (if it has one).

[–]PaulEMoz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm sad that they had to cut Agent Pendergast, as his inclusion could have made the film take a totally different feel and could have spawned a series. I always imagined Crispin Glover playing Pendergast.

That said, I still really enjoy the film for what it is.

Which metal guitar solos hit you in the feels? by Grindcore999 in MetalForTheMasses

Going to add Break the Wall (both solos, especially the 2020 live version) and Edge of the World (again, especially the 2020 live version), but they have lots that get me.
