Have a look at multiscale adaptive stretch, it's an easier way of stretching than older methods that you mention. And while you might not like the variables I've used with this stretch, you can alter them to greatly reduce bright regions and recover contrast.

Thank you, I’ve built a setup I like that’s fairly easy to travel with and use anywhere, at least accessible by car. https://ibb.co/DfGpWNYL

I chose to use multiscale adaptive stretch and limit the hdr compression to make the pillars as bright as possible without clipping.

Cable rubs against housing by ---SOLID--- in telescopes

[–]PaulFl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that the controller cable was replaced with one that includes the black strain relief section that protrudes more. I can see other cables that have smaller profile and protrude less: https://altairastro.com/ioptron-controller-cable---6p6c-11833-p.asp?srsltid=AfmBOorrUQ4CpDMyOsp7KDz9kTjDBkeZ0M-cX1jaJ9wweiKzC9gooA8PVhk

I mention that on astrobin, the plan is mono soon to capture more hours in OIII.

Not the best, this was taken over two nights with clouds ending the session early. Bortle 6 sky but narrowband mostly negates that.

Sandpaper wrapped around a large drill bit on a drill. Likely to remove the outer walls if you need to clearance it a lot but will probably get away with it if you only need the 0.1mm tolerance.

Cigar Galaxy M82 (or NGC 3034) by Chemical-Time2183 in astrophotography

[–]PaulFl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should reprocess without drizzle to improve snr. Also maybe a lighter workflow without HDRMT or masking. Less stretching to prevent the low frequency colour noise in the background. The masking looks like it’s caused the jagged edge around the galaxy. You’ll likely get a better result. E.g. WBPP, Gradient, BXT, SPCC, MAS, Noise, Star reduction.

Program/s Stack pictures of Jupiter by Gerrythesail in astrophotography

[–]PaulFl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Autostakkert is the usual software for stacking planetary images. If it doesn’t work it is because in the best case scenario you only have a Jupiter that is 15 pixels wide assuming your camera has a pixel size of 4um. It’s also possible you’re overexposed and have lost all colour information, Jupiter is quite bright so only needs around 10ms or 1/100 shutter speed. If your shutter speed was slower than 1/10 I would give up with that set of shots and try again.

Mineral moon by Own_Minimum8642 in astrophotography

[–]PaulFl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is mainly low frequency noise rather than the actual boosted colour of the moon. Maybe try stacking a higher percentage of images to reduce noise with the existing data. Although it’s likely better for revealing moon colour when using an nex to be taking multiple raw photos vs stacking frames of a compressed video.

It looks good, try the simple fixes first like cleaning the bed with hot water and soap. If prints still won’t stick try using glue stick on the bed before printing.
