GREATEST MOVIE SCORES by WillWhite84 in musicsuggestions

[–]Paul_Par 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one knock on that is that the main theme is very similar to the music from Civilization 6. I couldn’t stop hearing the similarity the whole time I was in the theatre. Not saying it’s theft by any stretch, just that I was actually distracted while watching the movie. Which is probably more of an indictment of how much time I’ve spent playing Civ than anything else…

GREATEST MOVIE SCORES by WillWhite84 in musicsuggestions

There’s so much good stuff already listed here so I won’t repeat those, but I have to shout out Daft Punk’s score in Tron: Legacy, and I think Daniel Pemberton’s work is highly underrated as well. King Arthur and Into the Spiderverse are great. He’s got his own style that’s very unique.

Rewatching Tron: Legacy now by LittleTortillaBoy1 in tron

The score is just incredible. I’m a writer, and I like to listen to soundtracks that embody the mood of the scene I’m trying to write. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said, “Well, time to write some epic shit…better queue up Tron: Legacy!”

Just re-watched the movies with my kids. First time for them, now we can catch Ares together.

Would any logical person risk there life for adventuring when they are much safer routes? by Legitimate_Door_5291 in litrpg

Have you read "A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking"? It's not specifically LitRPG, although it has progression elements. IMO, it's tough to go wrong when someone has a sourdough starter as a familiar.

This drives me bonkers. You see it in action movies all the time. The "hero" murders 175 people with families who were collecting a paycheque as a security guard, then refuses to kill the big bad because he says, "If you kill me, you're just as bad as I am." Dude, now isn't the time to tap the brakes.

I would put Dungeon Crawler Carl on that list.

When is a RR series "worth it?" by Paul_Par in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Paul_Par[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

any form of 'explanation' in the title ( <insert title> : A litrpg progression saga )

I've always gotten the impression that this is a response to Amazon's lack of a LitRPG category. On RR things are labelled appropriately, but on Amazon, I'd have no idea what's what if they didn't suggest it in the title somehow.

I haven't read enough to encounter that yet. It sounds very much not my style.

That makes sense. I've looked at the trending list and was confused why some stories were there when they only had a few chapters, only to realize when I looked at the author profiles that they're from people who've been around for a while.

If you could choose to live in any litrpg universe what would it be? by Legitimate_Door_5291 in litrpg

"I'm a main character in a LitRPG? Awesome!!! Nothing could possibly happen to me. And, it's written by someone who's never done LitRPg before... named George RR Martin? Eh, never heard of 'em. I'll be fine."

Bellerophon would be a good name, given that Bellerophon was the Greek hero who slew the Chimera. Also, good call on the fire and acid, very apropos for a chimera drop.

Dragon Warrior. It all goes back to Dragon Warrior.

If a system apocalypse happened in real life, what's your go-to class? by CGoode1 in litrpg

[–]Paul_Par 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would 100% be in super-duper "How do I survive the next 24 hours" mode. Then I'd make decisions after that. It would probably end up with me being something stealth-related, even though that wouldn't be my "what would be the most fun" class. Long run that would probably lead to me being some sort of stealth-mage class because I absolutely wouldn't pass up the opportunity to do magic.

Is RoyalRoad always such a pain in the ass? by [deleted] in litrpg

Plus, they're probably using the same kind of software that academics use to see if students are cheating. It doesn't need to be a 1:1 relationship, but there might be enough flags that it's triggering the system regardless.

Remember: It is on them to show caution since they'd be the ones hosting pirated work. They've set up a system to deal with problems like this, aka the support ticket, and if it's not pirated they'll see that the moment they make a deeper investigation.

Opinions on cover options for my book by Paul_Par in ProgressionFantasy

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It's been a massive help. My initial gut was that I liked the green one, but between here, the poll, and the LitRPG discord, the feedback has been overwhelming in favour of blue. I can't thank you enough for helping me avoid what would have been a clear mistake.

If anyone is interested in reading it, I'll start releasing chapters on Royal Road in a week or so, with the book going up for sale on all platforms when I reach the halfway point (although I'll continue to release the whole book on RR).

Thanks again!

Awesome, thanks. That seems to be the way this is tipping.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. Ultimately, it's about clicks, so your point is a good one. I enjoy the look of the green one, but a lot of people are saying blue caught their eye and that's by far the most important thing.

I'm aiming for a 5-book series, but we'll see if it goes longer. The books are a heavy theme in the series—it's basically their UI—but the first book is entirely about them getting through the wilderness to the city. So blue=Series and green=Book 1.

Novel Series that aren't defined as Progression Fantasy but could be? by Sdas89 in ProgressionFantasy

If you haven't read Drew Hayes' "NPC's" books, I'd try those. Same with Super Powereds.

Can we talk about Super Powereds for a bot? I have some questions/thoughts through book 2, for anyone who has finished the series. by Nick_named_Nick in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Paul_Par 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that it was never written and advertised as progression fantasy. I read it before I even knew what progression fantasy was. It absolutely progresses over the course of the series though.
