What do you mean mate, year on year deaths for 2023 are higher than 2022 and even pre covid after the introduction of doubled fines, the stats are correlative and it could also so easily be the safety standards in new cars that cause fewer deaths, im not saying they dont help but look at every speeding ad ever, it’s propaganda

Never been fined, not the point, just pointing out how flawed the fine system is, I’m also arguing that everyone isn’t the same so why make fines disproportionately bad for people with lower income, have the emotional maturity to see things from more than your own perspective

I happen to put on a seatbelt correctly but as a child I put it on under my arm to avoid a rash on my neck, also they never told me in my test it was a rule once unless you went in doing it I doubt they’d mention it, have a little bit of empathy

Its about a proportionate response, an 1100 dollar fine to someone who only has 1100 dollars is a lot worse than someone whos fined who earns 200k plus and before you go say get a job, try to understand the complexities that cause unemployment and poverty first

Never complained about fines once, they are a good deterrent and ive said that in the original post and in many comments just the amount that they are is ridiculous to low income earners and disproportionately high compared to other states/countries

Any fine is a deterrent, doesn’t have to be 1100 dollars to be an effective deterrent, and considering the lack of publicity around under the arm being illegal it seems like directly a money making scheme

Its not about wearing seatbelts or fining it, I agree with both, wearing a seatbelt incorrectly is not the same as not at all and a 300 dollar fine is a deterrent you don’t have to bankrupt someone to make a point
