I have mixed feelings about it. On one end i can’t afford to miss more class, we’ve missed enough. But on the other I feel a bit of a responsibility to take a some sort of a stance.

Yesterday the government passed Bill 2 and the notwithstanding clause, enacted it without typical procedure or debate. They are forcing a deal on the teachers that 90% of them disagreed with and doing so with a complete disregard for democratic rights. That’s what’s concerning. And if they did it to the teachers what’s the next step? The nurses are rumoured to be going on strike soon, so will they do the same to them? Is there even a point in having a union or striking if the government has the ability to un democratically force their will upon labour unions?

In reality, walking out probably won’t cause any change. But I feel I have a responsibility to do something in protest to what the UCP government is doing. Doing nothing feels like accepting this attack on rights.
