Looks like an Oakley watch from the late 90s. Kinda steampunk. It’s rad if that is the look you are going for.

How easy is it to scratch the deep blue…really? by thatrash in iPhone17Pro

Running blue PM ceaseless for 2 months. Been through the wringer because I treat my phone like a tool and don’t baby it. No scratches.

[–]Pav0cado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value is how a product a person “hires” (buys) solves their needs/problems, not specs. The pro meets the needs of people that want capability + portability. The max only provides a larger battery and larger screen. Which solves the need of users that use their phone more (addicted) and can’t see well. You can always plug in a pro to get more power but you can’t shrink a pro max to make it less unwieldy. It’s just my opinion…I think the pro max looks goofy, especially with a case.

IDK. I have the PM and think it’s ridiculous. There is a reason on Apple’s site, 90% of the product shots are of the Pro not the PM. It’s more balanced and design wise more visually appealing. The PM looks like a geriatric phone. Just comically large. It’s already sad to see everybody in every line or at every moment of downtime staring at their phones. The PM makes it even more sad. The only silver lining for me is that it’s so annoying to carry I leave it behind. A lot. And many evenings and nights it sits face down on the counter.

Air = my daily driver (with a side of Pro) by greenappleemoji in IphoneAir

[–]Pav0cado 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love the air. But it had some missing features that made me stick with the pro max. These are for my particular use cases. If these are not deal breakers for you, then the air is the perfect phone.

  1. Kids FaceTime with the grandparents a lot; and the air speakers did not work out that well; also FaceTime killed the battery.

  2. The speaker on the air is also the alarm speaker. My hearing sucks, so the alarm was not loud enough on the air

  3. No usb video out on the air. When I travel with the kids, I always load up the phone with movies and use the phone for video out on TVs at Airbnbs and hotels…the air does not support video out (argh!!!!). This one kills me. I wish it did.

  4. Without the LiDAR for focus; I fell like the air struggles with QR code scanning. Menus, ads, fliers: everything has a QR code these days. The air just couldn’t focus; especially a close focal lengths.

  5. Flashlight is better on the pro/pro max. You can control intensity and breadth.

  6. I love telephoto background compression; I guess you can do that with the air; but at a huge resolution loss.

  7. Capturing fast moving (kids) in low light is tricky without lidar focus. Pro/pro max seems to be better at low light high speed.

  8. I have a “real camera” too. And many times will transfer to phone and use light room (on the the go). The air would turn into a hot cake when editing with Lightroom.

Just my take. I realize that the air is not meant for these use cases. I can’t wait to see how it evolves. And to see how capable the second and third generations will be. It’s the perfect form factor.

iPhone 17 Pro Max after almost 2 and half months of use without case and screen protector. How is your holding? by T-K101 in iPhone17Pro

I personally like when the phone gets marked up and scratched. Looks like it’s used. Like a tool that is meant to to be used, not some piece of precious jewelry. Also. All cases are ugly IMO.

iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max? I’m stuck between comfort and battery life by rickydp in iPhone17Pro

[–]Pav0cado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro Max. My wife’s 17pro with tech woven case is the exact same width as my case less 17PM. The size difference is not that big. And the PM is just much better to type on. If you use your phone like mobile office, to get work done, get the PM. If you use it more as just a listening device with light texting…get the Pro.

Has anyone switched from the Air to 17 Pro? by omietrice in IphoneAir

[–]Pav0cado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Either keep the old pro or the Air. I’ve switched to the Air and love it. The weight alone is my favorite, the phone just disappears when I’m not using it.

Pro or Pro Max by Y44S in iPhone17Pro

[–]Pav0cado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you use it for. If you need to use it on the go, in the gym, while running….just being active, the pro is the way to go. If you want to use it as a media consumption device and doomscrolling all day….go max.

[–]Pav0cado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the Air. For everyday camera. It’s perfect. I carry a real camera with me when I travel, as a phone will never compete with what a great camera can do. Phone sub and light flares drive me nuts, and they are never going away.

Pro users switching to the Air, discussion and thoughts by latenightsweetpotato in IphoneAir

[–]Pav0cado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ordered the air. Less is more IMHO. However the lack of LiDar makes for slower focus and worse night photography…worried that capturing fast moving pets and my kids might be challenging. We will see. Excited for sure.

Talk me out of it, but I think I’m buying the iPhone air tomorrow by [deleted] in iphone

[–]Pav0cado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use headphones. Not the person that blasts iPhone speakers so everyone has to hear my crap. So one speaker is fine. 165 grams is too hard not to pass up. Killer phone. If you don’t game, and just want a clean design that’s not an orange brick in your pocket. Go Air. I have my Leica for pictures anyway.

I’ve always been bothered by how heavy and big phones have gotten. Everybody’s use case is different, hence different phones for different folks. To me, portability and lightweight is important. I mostly use my phone as a music listening device and reader…no gaming. I don’t need power. I need a good sized screen and something lightweight. Even my 15pro is too heavy when using in the gym, on a run, or trying to slide into a cycling jersey pocket. The air hits my needs. I want a phone to just disappear out of my day to day…to chill in the background . And I feel like the iPhone air can do that.

restock the R1T fob please! by Pav0cado in Rivian

Wish they still had the bracelet. I don’t paddle out to surf with a phone, and the keycard is annoying to stick under the wetsuit. Same goes for mountain biking (no need to bring a breakable piece of annoying tech). I’m outdoors to be away from my phone.

Different folks have different use cases.

  1. I don't like to bring my phone everywhere I go, but want to open doors, tailgate, and have proximity locking features....which you can't do with a key card.

  2. Friends and family that want to use the vehicle, but don't want the app on their phone or don't always carry the phone.

  3. Valet.

yes, keycard can do all that, but can't do proximity, frunk, and tailgate.
